FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has hit back at Opposition Member Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) for saying the incumbent Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government is failing tourism.

He pointed out that Hon Walwyn has been saying there is no new hotel developments in the territory; however, the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government of which Hon Walwyn was a part of missed many opportunities to have hotel developments between 2011 and 2019.

NDP ‘fumbled’ many opportunities for hotel developments- Premier

“They had Prospect Reef on the table [but they fumbled it. They had the Beef Island Development on the table [but] they fumbled it. They had Norman Island on the table, they fumbled it. They fumbled a whole bunch of opportunities to have hotel development,” Premier Wheatley stated on the International Morning Braff Show on Tola Radio VI on November 2, 2023.

He said not only did the NDP fumble the hotel developments, but they had the opportunity to extend the runway at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport and they “fumbled” it.

“When you see St Vincent opening Sandals [resort], you think St Vincent opening Sandals just like that? It’s because they invested in their airport development is why they could open a Sandals [resort]. That is the reason, because Sandals needs to know that they have air access for the people who going to be staying in their hotel.”

He said one of the significant developments in tourism during his short tenure as Minister for Tourism is the return of American Airlines to the Virgin Islands this year.

“What did the National Democratic Party do as it pertains to getting better air access? They gave seven million dollars to a fake company,” Premier Wheatley said in reference to the failed BVI Airways deal.

Dr Wheatley said for persons to now have the audacity to say his government is fumbling the ball on tourism, shows they don’t have a conscience.

‘Watch me work baby!’

Co-host of the show Rosemary Cindy Rosan then told the Premier that his VIP government also seemed to be failing to redevelop Prospect Reef.

Dr Wheatley said he has only been Tourism Minister for a matter of months; however, if he fumbles the ball for his 4-year tenure, she can rightfully criticise him.

“All I going to say to you is watch me work baby, watch me work, and you are going to see things you have never seen before.”

Dr Wheatley then proceeded to outline some of the things he has set out to accomplish in his term as Premier and Tourism Minister, including hotel developments.

“We will start Prospect Reef. We want to start that in 2024. We also want to start the Beef Island development. We also want to see Nanny Cay [hotel development] start. We also want to see Blunder Bay start. We also want to see Norman Island start. We also want to extend the [airport] runway [on Beef Island].

He said the plan is also to fix the roads and the water infrastructure.

Additionally, Premier Wheatley said his Government wants to “properly” develop an unemployment programme.

Regarding housing development, he said the intention is to pass the Crown Land Policy and start distributing land deeds in places like Anegada, Virgin Gorda and Tortola.

Why does the Premier waste his time with this evil minded person. He needs to stop trying to get her approval and move on.

When you look at all the Premier listed as accomplishments and things coming in the future the question must be asked --- Did he initiate and do all these things or was it the former Premier or Premiers?

To me the Premier is allowing others dictate his pace rather than he setting the tone as the leader of the country without them. He is speaking too much when he needs to be leading.

The major issue with this Premier is he does not listen especially to the Lil man. Either that or he does not understand what we are trying to tell him when we speak.

I am definitely not a fan of this Premier but clearly Cindy is on the UK payroll. She sees nothing wrong with any of their actions.

Cindy is doing more damage than good to the BVI. Nothing pleases her except what Lorna does and most of us cannot see what Lorna is doing.

When will the Premier, Cindy, and all elected officials fight for the rights and future of the BVI and get the UN, CARICOM and others to join the fight to get this slavery whip of an order of council to wrongfully and unjustifiably suspend a country's constitution in the modern day era. This is so wrong. The same holds true for the financial services.

Cindy is a narcissist with a UK agenda and Natalio is always providing narcissistic supply to her. He perhaps doesn't understand that it's a never ending cycle and the narcissist will always need that supply of attention and validation because without it they are empty and hollow and have nothing to prop themselves up with. Natalio doesn't have standards for himself because he allows her to drag him down to her level and he finds humor in it and doesn't understand it's a personality disorder that is not normal or healthy and he should not engage in it. Cindy is using the media as a cover for her condition and to give herself relevance and he keep seeking approval from her hoping she will change but they cannot change which is why it's a personality disorder/mental illness.

“ Watch me work baby:” That sounds sexy and playful. But we are in serious time and require serious planning and action. We can do anything we want but we cannot do everything, for we don’t have neither tge resources not the capacity to everything at once. So rattling off a long list of intentions sounds impressive but is not action. Working requires concrete action. Let’s prioritize our based on available resources. Keep it real. Dr. Hon Premier Natalio Wheatley, D-7, MoF, you are young bright fellow, leader of the country/government business, statesman, diplomat, so be be serious, setting the personal example. Show us you are the leader we have been waiting for. You have the opportunity to build and leave a strong and enduring legacy. Don’t squander it with vanity. Let’s get serious.

Dr. Hon Natalio Wheatley, Rep D-7, MoF, is getting a likle ful ah heself. Humble you self behabe civically as a statesman. Throttle back that bulging ego young man and work effectively, diligently and quietly to make the BVI a better place. As the late Norbert Wheatley aka Fix It popularized and patented “ Fix Yourself.” See yourself through the eyes, the window, of the ‘lil man’, others, etc. Politics provide both opportunity and optimism but if one gets too big for one’s britches and get too arrogant, elitist, , living in a hermetically sealed bubble it can be a savaging humbling muda F. Get head outta de cloud and fix yo self. .
