POCKWOOD POND, Tortola, VI- Word reaching our News Centre is that the Director of Waste Management contract of Trinidad and Tobago national Mr Marcus E. Solomon will not be renewed.

Mr Solomon, who is expected to return to his home country this week, confirmed the end of his tenure in a social media post. He was appointed as Director in 2023 on a two-year contract.

'I made a difference'- Solomon

In his social media post, he spoke about some of his achievements, including the rollout of waste reduction and diversion strategies, the end of subsurface fires, minimising smoke and the flies at waste disposal facilities and the expansion of house-to-house garbage collection.

Mr Solomon also noted that he was able to set up the export of recyclables such as waste oil, scrap metal, derelict vehicles and plastics and negotiate approximately $300,000 in grant/donation funding.

Thanks staff & department for dedication & commitment

He thanked his staff and the Department of Waste Management for their “dedication and commitment to delivering improved services to the public.

The outgoing Director also noted in his social media post that “despite my departure, I'm leaving confident that this Department is staffed by dedicated, talented individuals committed to preserving 'Nature’s Little Secret’ for future generations”.

The post of Director Waste Management has been advertised, and it’s our understanding that interviews are ongoing and a Virgin Islander is the frontrunner to replace Mr Solomon.

Thank you Mr Solomon, for ending our torment with the smoke from Pockwood Pond. Best wishes to you and family in your endeavours. I hope government knows what it is doing because if that unhealthy nonsense returns, we will be marching! Forwards ever backwards never!

Much displeasure about derilic cars, waste and smoke. Yes they're all legit. So I'm wondering if we can't somehow use the smoke from the incinerator to produce some form of usable energy - steam power - electrical power. Turn derilic metal into something we can export.. Just thinking out loud
It might be a good project for either/or our high school or college students. There's got to be something positive here and not just complaints.
    All the best.

In any business, if your work standards is not up to par, you have to go. If my mother was working for me and her work standards was not up to par, she can no longer work for me and have to go as well. It is not personal. Just because she is my mother I am going to allow her to bring the business down.

Reaching the landfill at6:30am only to be told that landfill will be open at 8:30 was a total waste of everything. I hope that is rectified, it is against the very laws of nature. You wake up in the morning and your body demands that you get that $#1+ out of here.

He was not the first to export Derelicts vehicles. In fact, he never did a shipment out of the territory. Thei island is covered in derelicts now, nowhere to carry them since he put the storage site next to the main road. If you look the bins are overflowing and garbage on the ground from 10 AM in the morning. And rumors on the street I'm sure everyone heard already. Bye Bye Go Trinidad and do what you all do well.
