ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - In their final non-conference games of the regular season, Virgin Islanders Jelissa Potter and Darier Malone and the Warner University softball team were swept in a doubleheader by Columbia College (Mo.) on Saturday afternoon March 29, 2014. The Cougars won game one 8-2 and game two 5-1.

The losses drop the Lady Royals to 8-14 on the season while the wins improved the Cougars to 13-10 in 2014.

In game one, the Lady Royals' offense had three singles through the first four innings against Columbia starter Lauren McCroskie. Nicole Dowdy put Warner on the board with a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tiffany Porter also came around to score in the inning after drawing a two-out walk.

On the other side, the Cougars' offense chased Warner starter Jessica Castiglione from the game in the second inning after scoring three runs on two hits including a two-run homerun. Lindsey Martin came on in relief to pitch the rest of the way. Castiglione (2-4) took the loss as the Cougars tacked on eight runs off 10 hits in the game.

After their two-run fifth inning, the Lady Royals were retired in order to end the game 8-2.

Six different players recorded a hit in game one. Dowdy had the big homerun, her first of the season.

Jelissa Potter drove in Porter for the second run and went 1-for-3 including a double. Malone also went 1 for 3.

In game two, the Cougars struck first again with three runs in the top of the first inning. Warner starter Nicolette Wunderly held the Cougars scoreless over the next three innings before surrendering two unearned runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

The Lady Royals put runners on second base in each of the first three innings but could not advance them further. Nicole Dowdy brought home the first Warner run of game two in the bottom of the sixth to narrow the deficit 5-1. Columbia's Tiffany Urwiler pitched out of jam however, and left the Lady Royals with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Wunderly (1-1) went the distance in game two scattering five runs, three earned, on six hits.

At the plate, Stefani Bonilla had two of Warner's five hits in the game going 2-for-4.

Darier Malone scored the lone run for the Lady Royals in the sixth inning.

Next weekend the Lady Royals hit the road for their first conference road swing of the season. On Friday, April 4, the Lady Royals will be in West Palm Beach, Fla. to face Northwood University in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Then on Saturday, April 5, they take on St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Fla.
