Due to a proclamation issued by Honourable Wright Jr, right, June 1, 2023, was declared Virgin Islands Day in the city of Tamarac in Florida. TAMARAC, Florida, USA– Virgin Islander Mr Morey Wright Jr, who was elected to the Tamarac, Florida City Council in 2022, has been appointed Vice Mayor of Tamarac, a 12-square mile area west of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and home to nearly 75,000 residents.

During the City of Tamarac’s December 14, 2023, Regular City Commission meeting, the Tamarac City Commission unanimously voted to appoint District 2 Commissioner Mr Wright to serve as the City’s second highest-ranking elected official for a one-year term.

Mr Wright Jr, who is a graduate of Willard Wheatley Primary School and Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) in the [British] Virgin Islands, has served on the Tamarac City Commission since November 2022.

During his time in office, he has represented the City of Tamarac as a Voting Delegate for the 97th Annual Florida League of Cities Conference and also served as Chair of the Auditor Selection Committee. 

Wright Jr ‘honoured’ by appointment

"I'm honoured to be appointed as Tamarac's Vice Mayor," said Mr Wright Jr in a press release from the City of Tamarac on December 15, 2023.

"I am excited to continue to work with the Commission, residents and community members to develop meaningful programs and initiatives that will positively impact Tamarac and ensure that our City remains a vibrant and thriving community for all,” Mr Wright Jr added.

Morey Wright Jr is a University of Florida alumnus, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Wright also earned two master’s degrees in business and government from John Hopkins University. 

Professionally, Morey is an Executive at a South Florida-based internet ecommerce company. He also owns a small business that consultants on digital technology and marketing.
