VIslander Jharel L. Cotton makes World Roster at MLB Futures game
Calhoun leaked the news of his inclusion on the United States roster on Monday 27, 2016 while Cotton, a Virgin Islander who this news site featured as a Young Professional in March of this year, is on the World roster.
Calhoun, 21, is hitting .260/.326/.473 in 74 games for Double-A Tulsa, leading the Drillers in hits (73), home runs (14), doubles (16), runs (43), RBI (51), walks (26) and total bases (133). Calhoun will start for the North Division on Tuesday night in the Texas League All-Star Game in Springfield.
Cotton, 24, has a 4.98 ERA in 17 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, including 11 starts, with 82 strikeouts and 25 walks in 68...2 innings. Since a brief turn in the bullpen the right-hander has returned to the rotation with a 3.69 ERA in seven starts, with 46 strikeouts and 15 walks in 39 innings.
His 82 strikeouts rank second in the Pacific Coast League and his 1.180 WHIP ranks fourth.
Trevor Hoffman will manage the US team, while Moises Alou manages the World team.
The MLB Futures Game is the unofficial kickoff of the All-Star break, played on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Petco Park at 4 pm, televised by MLB Network and simultaneously streamed on MLB.com, with Matt Vasgersian on play-by-play and joined by Mark DeRosa, Heidi Watney and Jonathan Mayo.
