ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has issued an advisory to the public of changes to the administration of visa waivers.

"Effective immediately, visa waivers will no longer be valid for the remaining life of the holder's passport. Instead, all visa waivers issued under the revised policy will be granted for a maximum period of two (2) years, irrespective of the expiry date of the passport,” the statement said.

Strengthening border security

The RVIPF explained this change forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen border security measures and maintain the mutual security of both parties in the visa waiver scheme.

Visa waiver approval remains subject to all existing eligibility requirements.

“The granting of a visa waiver continues to be considered on a case-by-case basis, with necessary consultation with our law enforcement counterparts in the United States.”

The RVIPF said it remains committed to facilitating appropriate administration of the scheme, working in partnership with partners in the interest of mutual safety and security.

“We appreciate the public's cooperation and understanding [as] we work to implement this change.”
