With a best result of 14th place in race 6 at the US Laser Nationals in Fort Lauderdale and two other top twenty finishes in the 55 boat fleet, Mr Lettsome placed 22nd overall and is showing improved talent as he makes the first step onto the senior circuit.
The Laser Standard has a larger sail than the Radial (used for the Youth events) and is the equipment used at the Olympic Games.
2019 Sailing World Cup Next
According to a release from the Royal British Virgin Islands Yatch Club, the fleet in Fort Lauderdale included a number of Olympians so it was great preparation for Mr Lettsome's next challenge, the 2019 Sailing World Cup Miami event taking place from January 27, to February 3, 2019.
Miami is the second stop in the HEMPEL World Cup Series, the annual series of Olympic sailing events for elite and professional sailors.
The multi-class regattas attract the best of the best with this year's Miami event listing 106 Laser entries including 2016 Olympic gold medallist, Tom Burton from Australia and bronze medallist Sam Meech from New Zealand.
