SANTIAGO, Chile - Virgin Islands (VI) Sailor, Thad A. Lettsome who represented the VI at the 2023 PanAm Games in Santiago, Chile from 28 October to 4 November, has exited the tournament with an overall place of 14th.

Completing 10 races across 8 days in a fleet of 22 boats, Lettsome finished with a best result of 6th place coming in race seven according to information from the BVI Yacht Club.

With over 14 Olympic Games’ experience within the fleet, Thad would continue to get better from the start of the regatta through the end of the week.

Being one of the younger competitors racing at just 21 years old, the ability to get better and compete with the top sailors is an important part of the journey.

Lettsome heads back to Tulane University

In addition to PanAm Games glory, there were four Olympic berths up for grabs so the tension was high amongst the competitors.

The silver and bronze medallists from Chile and Guatemala claimed the South American spots whilst Puerto Rico and Aruba booked their place with the North American allocation.

Lettsom is expected to head back to Tulane University and his next regatta back will be the US college single-handed nationals.

Job well done, Mr. Lettsome. You continue to get better and better. So heartwarming to see. I hope other young men would emulate you and become apart of this sport. God's speed next race and beyond.
