VI’s Savianna Joseph takes gold in U17 Shot Put @ 49th CARIFTA Games

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Competition at the 49th CARIFTA Games 2022 which opened today, Saturday, April 16, 2022, at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica is off to a good start with team BVI already securing 2 medals.

The first Gold medal went to Savianna Joseph who competed in the U17 Shot Put scoring a distance of 13.54 to beat Jamaica’s Natassia Burrell who scored a distance of 13.10m to secure silver.

Third place went to Terrell McCoy of the Bahamas who secured bronze for her country with a distance 13.00.

Jah’Kyla secures bronze 

Meanwhile, VI’s Jah’Kyla Morton secured bronze in the U17 High Jump competition ahead of the Shot Put competition.

The 15-year-old cleared the bar at 1.45 metres and 1.50m without mistake.

Morton's Jump, however, was not enough to take down Jamaica’s Danielle Noble, who took gold with a clearance of 1.73m ahead of Trinidad & Tobago’s Tenique Vincent who came in second with silver.

The VI delegation participating in the 2022 games includes 32 athletes comprising 17 females and 15 males with twenty-nine of the athletes based in the Virgin Islands while the other three are based overseas.

    Only when they do good they claim and proud of them. I agree with you because if their mother and father not from the BVI they do not belong here. They can’t be a politician they can only put BVI on the map. Very hypocritical.
