VI’s Potter “walk-off double” sends Lady Royals to 1st Win!

Jelissa "Shelly" Potter went 2 for 4, had 2 RBI and a Walk off Double to lead the Royals to their first conference win of 2012.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Warner University softball team started their second The Sun Conference series of the season on Friday March 16, 2012 and thanks to Virgin Islander Jelissa “Shelly” Potter, they won 2-1 against the visiting Seahawks of Northwood University.

Despite going one down at the top of the sixth on an error, it was the Lady Royals batting in the bottom of the seventh that pulled off the victory.

Tiffany Porter reached base on a fielder’s choice, but would see Amanda Gardner out on the play to make the first out of the inning. The next batter up, Laura Lovell, singled to put the go ahead runner on first. Jelisa Potter sent the Lady Royals streaking around the bases to score Porter from second and Lovell all the way from first with a walk-off double.

The walk-off hero, Jelisa Potter went 2-for-4 at the dish with two runs batted in.

The Lady Royals entered in at the bottom of the conference standings after being swept by the University of South Carolina-Beaufort last weekend. Warner came in at 10-7 (0-3 TSC), while the Seahawks were 8-15 (1-2 TSC).

They now improve to 11-7 (1-3 TSC), while the Seahawks drop to 8-16 (1-3 TSC).
