VI’s Phillip sisters conclude Doha swim events

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Phillip sisters, Amarah and Elinah, of the Virgin Islands, concluded their Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) World Championships earlier today, Saturday December 6, 2014, competing in the 100m Butterfly Event in Doha, Qatar.

The pair both swam in Heat 2 with Elinah besting her sister with a time of 1.06.77, which saw her place 54th overall. Amarah swam 1:08.83 to place 58th.

Earlier in the competition based in the 25m pool at the Hamad Aquatics Centre, Elinah Phillip had the 3rd fastest swim of her career in the Women’s 100m' Freestyle of 59.30 seconds to finish 75th overall out of 112, whilst Amarah recorded a personal best of 1:02.16 to finish 92nd.

Returning to the pool for the 50m Butterfly, Amarah then recorded a time of 30.81 to place 61st overall. Amarah was scheduled to swim in the event, but pulled out.

More than 1'100 athletes from 171 countries have registered to compete at the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), taking place in Doha, Qatar, from December 3-7, 2014.

    Its just amazing what these young ladies doing on the international stage
    representing this country and Government is clueless and don't support
    them, just mind baffling to say the lease.

      I give props to these girls' parents for pushing forwarD and not waiting for government. But how do you know government not helping them at this time?

    Truly amazing, as this "rich" Caribbean territory does not have even one Olympic class swimming pool!

    How about Alia Atkinson of Jamaica, who won the 100m breaststroke equaling the world record?

    may i just say this is the BVI not Jamaica, and at the present moment we will celebrate the people that belong to us not other people from other islands or countries........ im just saying that bring up other people shouldnt be a comment.......no hard feelings or shade
