ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The highly anticipated 75th anniversary of the restoration of the Virgin Islands’ (VI) legislature is scheduled to begin on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

On November 24, 1949, a major demonstration, often called The Great March, was led by pioneer legislators Mr Theodolph H. Faulkner, Mr Isaac Fonseaca, aka 'Glannie', and Mr Carlton deCastro.

Following the march, it was realised that the wish of the Virgin Islands people was to have a representative Government that could be changed from time to time, better suited to the needs of the community.

A diamond jubilee

The milestone diamond jubilee is being celebrated under the theme ‘Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future: The Virgin Islands 75 Year Journey Towards Self-Determination!’

This milestone anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect on the Virgin Islands’ journey towards meaningful self-determination and legislative progress, honouring the past while shaping the future, a press release from the House of Assembly stated.

A church service on Sunday, November 2, 2025, will mark the official launch of the month-long celebration at the St George's Episcopal - Anglican Church on Main Street, Road Town, Tortola.

Public encouraged to join celebrations

Speaker of the House of Assembly Hon Corine N. George-Massicote invited the community to participate in a variety of commemorative events throughout the month.

“Some of the other things to look out for are a Special Sitting; a Mock Sitting; Daily General Knowledge Quiz, and a Recognition Ceremony at the Eileene Parsons Auditorium on Friday, 7th November at 7:00 p.m.”

A special series, ‘Know the House’, will also be featured during the month, and interested people are encouraged to tune in and follow the events live on the House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/HOABVI/ and on the official YouTube channel @houseofassemblyvi2922.

Maybe we should call it quits and stop at 75 years.

HOA13 definitely not representing the people. Just themselves.

Time to change and find one better suited to the needs of the community.

It’s hard to get excited about these high level celebrations when every new opportunity snd recent bills seems to skip over locals
