ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - As the 2013-14 Softball Season for the Warner University Royals closed with early exit at the Sun Conference Championship eliminator, Virgin Islander Jelissa Potter was rewarded with an honour from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Warner University was well represented on the Scholar Athlete Awards list for Spring Sports released by the office of the NAIA and sponsored by Daktronics, at the beginning of June, with nine student-athletes spread across five sports, including Potter in Softball.

The Lady Royals softball team led The Sun Conference with four selections on this year's list.

Representing the Royals were CJ Gonzalez (baseball), Stefani Bonilla (softball), Lindsey Martin (softball), Tiffany Porter (softball), Potter (softball), Patrick Frandji (men's tennis), Jonathan Nusbaum (men's track & field), Kalyn Safreed (women's golf) and Daniel Bova (men's golf).

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach of sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.

The Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete programs recognize excellence in the classroom by NAIA-member student-athletes who are juniors or above in academic standing with a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Students must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer. The awards are given annually to outstanding student-athletes in the various sports in which the programme is active and their respective teams are eligible for NAIA postseason competition.
