BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI-  Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) addressed the graduates of the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies on Friday, June 26, 2026, emphasising the need for skilled individuals in all areas across the Virgin Islands.

21 students exited from the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies at its graduation ceremony, which was held at the New Testament Church of God - International Worship Centre, under the theme “Caps Off to the Future.”

Ethan Faulkner was named Valedictorian of the Class of 2026, while A’nyah Thomas was honoured as Salutatorian. Of the graduates, 15 received high honours, and 12 graduated with dual enrollment from the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC).

Premier Wheatley told the graduates that they are stepping forward with knowledge, skills, and the confidence that comes from hands-on learning and real achievements.

“You have proven that you are ready, not only to enter the world of work, but to shape it. As a young nation on a development path, the Virgin Islands needs people with skills in every imaginable area. We need builders and technicians, innovators and creators, problem solvers and leaders. We need people who can take ideas and turn them into action, and that is exactly what you have been preparing yourselves to do,” he added.

Skilled Individuals required for VI

Honourable Wheatley emphasised that there are genuine opportunities for individuals who are trained in specific skills, stating, “For those who have invested in developing your skills, your talents, and your understanding of the world around you, there is opportunity, real opportunity.”

He further remarked that the Virgin Islands needs an increased number of skilled workers, adding, “The pace and success of our national development will rest on the shoulders of people like you. People who are trained, capable and ready to contribute. You are not just graduating into the future. You are helping to build it. So take pride in your accomplishments. Take pride in your work and wherever your path leads, aim to be the very best in your chosen field.”

Premier Wheatley concluded by stating, “Excellence is not an accident; it is a habit. Carry that habit with you. Great things are ahead for you, and the Virgin Islands is counting on your brilliance, your creativity, and your commitment.”
