VI's Brockbank & Andersen move up in ISAF World Cup 2015
Climbing steadily up the ranks with each race throughout the third day of racing, Rio 2016 sailing hopefuls, Alec Andersen and Chris Brockbank ended with a 2nd place finish in the final race of the day for the 49er Silver fleet at the ISAF World Cup Miami 2015.
With 30 boats in the silver fleet, the pair placed 16th in race 7, 10th in race 8 and with 3 more race days to go, have crept up four places to position 42 out of 58.
“Over the past two days we sailed six races in the qualifying series to settle farther back in the pack than we had hoped. We showed some moments of brilliance and finally found our stride in the bigger breeze so we're more than happy with our progress! Today we sailed three races in silver fleet in which we had solid continuous improvement throughout the day- 16, 10, and a 2nd in the last race! Very happy with the direction of our sailing and looking forward to another two days of racing!” commented Brockbank and Andersen.
The ISAF World Cup Miami 2015 has a confirmed number of 856 sailors from 63 nations competing across the ten Olympic and three Paralympic events.
Described as "Sunny and bright. Storming and raining sideways," day 2 of racing in the ISAF World Cup Miami 2015 followed squally, stormy, first-day conditions which saw several boats capsizing.
Team Virgin Islands sailors, Alec Andersen and Chris Brockbank held position 46 out of 57 competitors in the 49er class.
The event which takes place in the waters of Biscayne Bay, brings together the world's top Olympic and Paralympic class competitors.
The regatta is a mainstay on the winter circuit for sailors who are campaigning for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Competitions.
