VI's active confirmed COVID-19 cases spike to 77 - Hon Malone
The Minister made the announcement at the start of today's December 14, 2021, virtual Budget Debates via a live stream on youtube and carried on local media.
Calling it a 'significant increase' in cases, Hon Malone said as of December 13, 2021, of the 77 cases, 3 are on Anegada, 68 on Tortola, and 6 on Virgin Gorda.
Role of COVID in latest death to be determined - Hon Malone
He said the latest death while occurring in a person who was COVID-19 positive, determinations continue on the role the virus may have played in the death.
"We are all well aware of the yuletide and the festive season and that in an effort to stimulate the economy, that the number of COVID-related restrictions have been relaxed and a number of tourism-related activities continue in the territory," he said.
Hon Malone however said that it remains imperative that the VI find ways to live and function with COVID-19.
While encouraging persons to continue following the local public health guidelines, he also advocated the use of the COVID-19 vaccines as an added protection against the virus.

We need to take personal responsibility and make some impactful changes in our lifestyles. Lockdowns, restrictions are just kicking the can down the road. Vaccine mandates not only are unjust but make no sense with the limited and only temporary protection offered by the vaccines. Right now countries with vaccination rates much higher than BVI are experiencing huge waves and the the majority of the infected are vaccinated. Even the serious cases represent now the majority since they simply have vaccinated most of the adults. Check out Belgium for example. This mascarade has to stop!
