ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Energetic and highly charged performances by Barbados based entertainers, Krosfyah and the recently rebranded local band, VIBE (formerly VI Showtime), capped an eventful launch to the Territory’s 60th Festival Celebrations last evening, March 22, 2014.

Thousands participated in the ‘Block Party’ themed event held in Road Town along de Castro Street that also included performances from the Xtreme Band, the Razor Blades Band and the ever popular Moko Jumbies.

Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn was scheduled to speak at the launch but could not be there because of travel, the audience was told.

VI Festival and Fairs Committee Chairman Marvin ‘MB’ Blyden expressed gratitude to the many contributors to the proceedings while touting the cost effectiveness of this year’s Festival celebrations.

While not disclosing any figures on operation costs, Blyden said “I don’t want nobody walking around and saying this launch that we did here tonight is very costly.” He explained that aside from the live music, every other element of the launch was provided through sponsorship and for this he was copious in his expression of gratitude.

He encouraged members of the audience to sign up to participate in the Festival and directed them to the various troupes, many of whom had tents set up during the block party to facilitate interested persons.

“This year’s Festival Theme is ’60 years of celebration with cultural class. VI Festival, let’s play mass!”

It was awesome. They need to have a few more of the block parties leading up to festival. Have more in town different locations, east, west and beach parties on the smaller sister islands giving everyone a piece of the cake. Good job VI Fairs and Festival Commitee

I remember when Nu-line intertainment use to have a beach jam every weekend leading up to festival. It use to put you in the spirit. We need to start something like that again.

You mean they were playing like a bunch of bun pan. From the time they hit the stage the quality of music drop to a way different level. We need to start giving credit where it is due, Extreme was awesome, they played like an international band.

Every year u always dising Jougo them. Why the hate. If xtreme was an international band why they don't have a hit. Dirky and his wife need to stop blogging negativity it's getting old just like xtreme

In all fairness, all the bands were awesome. I was a bit disappointed in VIBE though, they started out great but halfway through they went offcourse. The crowd wasnt into them either much persons started walking away. Come on guys you needto play songs (actual whole songs aka MUSIC) nobody wants to hear no set of rhythm box you played like you wa doin a jouvert. Come on jougo I know you all can do it, you have a lot of fans because of association but there is a fan base out there need grabbing its called ADULT MUSIC LOVERS. I am not hating on VIBE jus would like to see their true potential..

The reliance on technology is what's killing our local music. If I want to listen to a riddim box I could stay home on my Mac and do it. I was there and the first 10 mins were alright, then here came the riddim box and a set of stupid yelling. I saw people watching in disbelief, like "This is it? The new band?"....They didn't play any real music.. 'bubble' 'shake yuh bottle'. RUBBISH! I was definitely disappointed and I really hope that's not the best BVI have to offer locally for our 60th and going forward. If it wasn't for Krossfyah, god be wid dem lol.

I could bet my last dollar you can't do what any of those musicians did that night...the best of you guzzlers like to downplay everbody and everything. I thought they played well sharing the stage with Krosfyah a veteran band out for over two decades. For the past few weeks I'm admiring the change the group is taking. First outing was a stellar performance to kick-off our 60th Celebration. Stop tekkin --- in ayo mouth for a change!!

Xtreme is a one-hit wonder! They don't have no singers or musicians; they rent everyone for every gig.
