VI’s 60th Anniversary Fest launched in grand style!
Thousands participated in the ‘Block Party’ themed event held in Road Town along de Castro Street that also included performances from the Xtreme Band, the Razor Blades Band and the ever popular Moko Jumbies.
Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn was scheduled to speak at the launch but could not be there because of travel, the audience was told.
VI Festival and Fairs Committee Chairman Marvin ‘MB’ Blyden expressed gratitude to the many contributors to the proceedings while touting the cost effectiveness of this year’s Festival celebrations.
While not disclosing any figures on operation costs, Blyden said “I don’t want nobody walking around and saying this launch that we did here tonight is very costly.” He explained that aside from the live music, every other element of the launch was provided through sponsorship and for this he was copious in his expression of gratitude.
He encouraged members of the audience to sign up to participate in the Festival and directed them to the various troupes, many of whom had tents set up during the block party to facilitate interested persons.
“This year’s Festival Theme is ’60 years of celebration with cultural class. VI Festival, let’s play mass!”

I could bet my last dollar you can't do what any of those musicians did that night...the best of you guzzlers like to downplay everbody and everything. I thought they played well sharing the stage with Krosfyah a veteran band out for over two decades. For the past few weeks I'm admiring the change the group is taking. First outing was a stellar performance to kick-off our 60th Celebration. Stop tekkin --- in ayo mouth for a change!!
