Virgin Islands delegation attends inaugural OECS Assembly

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A small delegation led by the Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE attended the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Assembly and the Inaugural Session which was held in the Parliament Building of Antigua in Antigua and Barbuda on Friday, August 10, 2012.

The delegation included Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton, Deputy Speaker and Fifth District Representative Honourable Delores Christopher, Member of the Opposition and Second District Representative Honourable Alvin Christopher and Representatives of the Premier’s Office Assistant Secretary Najan Christopher and Administrative Officer Nadia Demmings.

According to the Premier, “The establishment of the OECS Assembly is the next stage in the advancement and building of the regions political maturity and development and he looks forward to this new direction. Our strategy must be collaborative and this will require a collaborative effort,” the Premier stated in his statement to the OECS on the occasion.

This highly anticipated hallmark event in the history of the people of the OECS and further the people of the Caribbean was also broadcast ‘Live’ locally given its importance and relevance. The Premier explained that he was pleased that the BVI was able to witness the historic event.
