ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Many residents, political and social commentators have all predicted a snap election this year and continue to ask where is the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) team.

However, in an interview on Friday April 27, 2018 Chairman of the main Opposition VIP and Opposition Leader Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) said, “The VIP is almost there, within a month’s time we will be there.”

At the end of the interview, he peddled back and warned “we may not have all the candidates out, but we will have some within a month…”

The First District Representative was at the time speaking on the online radio show, Fresh Radio Vybz with host Paul A. Peart aka ‘Gadiethz.’

No other motives but the people

Hon Fahie said he takes leadership very seriously and added, "finding people to run with the VIP is not an issue, that is easy, but I want the right people... people who can work as a team, we got to make sure we are compatible with each other…”

The man who could be the next Premier, if his party wins, assured that “yes the VIP will be ready for the next elections.”

Hon Fahie stated, “we may not have the best individuals, but we will have the best team.”

When asked by the host to respond to allegations that he has been undermining the 76 Member Congress to get his way and to dictate who must be on the ticket, and that his leadership style might be intimidating, the young leader dismissed the suggestions and said this was the first he heard of such allegations.

Fahie: It’s not up to me, its Congress but….

He said “that is foolishness, as the VIP has a system in place through its Congress and that everybody has an agenda and you must find the person who has the same agenda and passion as you….passion to get what needs to be done for the people.”

Hon Fahie said, “all candidates must come to it, for the right reasons, you not going to join the VIP because you think it’s an easy ticket to get into power, we have to have the right motives, you not going to run your own show, we going to do this together and if this intimidates anybody, it shows they have an agenda totally different from what the people want…”

The former Minister for Education and Culture Hon Fahie said, under a VIP Government, “there will be more accountability, and that the county will be turned back over to God and the people.”

He said you cannot delay the things that needs to be done for the people, explaining that the laws to do whatever needs to be done for the Financial Services sector are always done in a hurry, but other things to protect the people are always delayed.

The next general elections is constitutionally due by the first quarter of 2019 and it’s expected to be another show down between the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) headed by 73 year old Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL) and the Opposition VIP headed by Fahie.

There are also talks ongoing by two new groups, along with a party that contested the 2011 general elections, that could feature in the next elections.

Glad to hear this. I think they took too long but at least they on the way. Get your people out. Start house to house campaigning. Dont wait until elections are called. Go out in the communities and be visible. Find out what needs to be done. Get your accountants to look at costs etc. So when you are putting your manifesto together you get it right. Dont make empty promises. We are watching.

Get the candidates out early so they can pass their first initial vetting by the public, and present their case for why they are suitable for leadership of our country at this time. The voters are much more aware of the stakes involved with this upcoming election so their buy-in is crucial. If the candidates can pass this first stage successfully, their support by the voters will growth. If there is push back by the public, you will be able to adjust, strategize, and correct before the full/all-out campaigning starts. That is why it is soo important to startout now- before any unforeseen tactics are implemented, like a snap election.

Too much hope is being put on a party to lead the BVI out of crisis. A party is a structure and left on its own nothing happens; it is the people in the party that makes things happen and it will be people in the party that will be depended upon to lead the BVI out of crisis. Has anyone seen a policy done anything, though it may be a good policy? No. It is people enforcing the policy is what makes it effective.

What is the VIP waiting for? Is it waiting for daylight to catch up with moonlight? Well, day light is already here. At this juncture, the VIP should have had a competitive slate of candidates. This suitation is reminiscent of election season 2015. The NDP sensing the weakness, disarray and unpreparedness of the main Opposition popped a snap election. In response, the VIP urgently fling together a list of names and was shellacked 11-2. And now there is disunity between the 2 Opposition members. Sad and selfish. Is it not about the prople? Further, Prime Minister Brown of Antigua and Barbuda sensing a weakness and unpreparedness of the Opposition, popped a snap election and slaughtered the Opposition 15-2/16-1.

Moreover, if I were advising the VIP, my advice would be to get its sh...t together in one sock urgently, for if it does not it will suffer the same fate as in 2015. Similarly, if I were advising the NDP, I would advise it to pop a snap election. Clearly, I have no blood hound in this fight. But from my observation at the 30’ level, the conditions on the ground scream snap election. It is either the Opposition get prepared or bust. The government got its team assembled. No one in the ruling party has indicated that he/she is not running in the next election. Now is the time for patriots to come forward and stand for election. The nation, the people needs you. The nation is in crisis and needs a strong team to lead it out.

You could come with Jesus Christ, Hailey Salasee, Mohamed, Donald Trump, Kim Jon Yug, and many others but still will not beat the NDP.

We are simply the best at every thing.

Jugo...of Course Fahie..... Only Sonil can't beat Picko in 7. VG is a sure win for Clenel...Jugo can beat Mark in 4.. Zoe deserve an opportunity in 5..With Decastro - Willock - Sellwood - JJ at Large..I'm bringing home 3 of them...Fahie is a certain... With my team I'm bringing home 8 for sure...

don’t sleep on the NDP machine; they might be weak, but they know how to regroup quickly; they have those undercover special interests moles behind them to give them that edge if necessary. They are no walk over; they will not give up power that easily knowing it’s do or die for them this time around.

Political observers and pundits are deliberating over the choice of political candidates for the next General Election. The Virgin Islands Party has a formidable chance of winning the next election providing they start a vigorous campaign early. In the 2015 election they were caught without a full slate of winnable candidates.

I am confident that they will win this time around. Most of all with Dr Dawson away in Anguilla, I am sure he is following the political developments at home. I am looking forward for his return and I am confident that he will win an At-Large seat easily. It is time to reclaim the country that has been sold to a group of so call sympathisers of the B.V.I.

Hon. Julian Fraise should stop lamenting over spilt milk. He should realise that the party is greater than any member. The conclusion of the party's internal election that resulted with Hon. Andrew Fahie as its chairmen was a decision of the people. Once the party informs His Excellency yhe governor, that it has a new chairman and the name is submitted to him, he has to act and appoint the opposition leader. The governor was within his right when he appointed the opposition leader.

Political parties and candidates should not only be for elections. By only declaring yourself for an election a potential politician appears opportunistic, only serving themselves. To be respected more, potential politicians should be involved year round, even in a part time, unpaid role.

NDP & VIP are currently washed up: the people who makeup these parties are not doing right: both bodies have some serious mismanagement of the tax payers money: money is a very funny; money make friendship end: we need 8 good women or men who will stand up for right while pushing the people of this territory forward: the party is not the issue it’s the people who makes up the parties

The HOA has become a place not very serious political debate take place , if you listen to them on the recent budget debate, I was waiting for my serious candidate on matters of interest to the Bvi public Delores, but this time she too fell down on the job . I am always wondering why Marlon even get up to speak he is waste of time and is weak in delivery. I also want to know why they are thanking weak @$s Doctor Smith, you have a hole in your budget of 50 plus million dollars no audited financials for the last 10 years , yet you are still depending on Neil Smith And Sonia Webster and you thanking the Minister of Finance for not accounting for Billions, members not offering serious solutions including early retirement and reducing the service with good separation packages. The ten members who are still sitting there following Doctor Smith are Enablers and have made the HOA a political grave yard
