CAPOON'S BAY, Tortola, VI - “The only way for the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) to go into the next paradigm of politics strong is to bring in a lot of new blood but a mixture of young and old.” Representative of the First District Honourable Andrew A. Fahie took strong courage to make that statement as he proclaims to being a believer of saying things just as he sees it.

“My personal thing is not what the congress would say,” he however noted.

Hon Fahie was cognisant of the likely repercussions and said that he had no problem putting himself out on a limb to make such a statement but further added, “When you are young you have a lot of energy and a lot of ideas but you also need some older heads to give you the wisdom that you would need and how to go about it so you need a mixture of it.”

The First District Representative was at the time being very candid with Virgin Islands News Online when in an exclusive interview he choose the ‘say it as it is’ on a number of topical issues as it relates to the progress and shortfalls of his district, NDP rule over the past two years and also on several issues facing his own VIP.

As of late there has been evidence of a number of youths expressing their interests in getting into politics, some have obviously aligned themselves already with the VIP and have been public by the show of their attire at certain events, while there are those who have been indicating that they are contemplating even running for district leadership positions. These persons have chosen not to go public just yet as they feel the time is not yet ripe.

The candid former minister for education also noted that while the VIP constitution allows for the acceptances of new membership, there is need for that immediate opening at this time to welcome new, young blood in order to save itself. “I am not afraid of what needs to be done because the constitution is well written, it is strong…” said Hon Fahie in all confidence.

Hon Fahie professes to be well acquainted with the constitution of the VIP as he said he was one that was integrally involved in its writing some years ago and was instrumental with some of things that went into it. “From back then I saw the need for the party to have structure and along with others who had more input than me, but we saw it needed to have good structure because it wasn’t me alone…”

It was since back then according to Hon Fahie, they had seen that this day would come, the time when there would have been the need for new and young blood to take the party safely into the new sphere of politics and leadership of the Territory. “That forward thinking is something that I am glad that we did and I know that it would take care of itself.”

Mr Fahie if you think any young person worth voting for will hitch their wagon to VIP under the leadership of yourself and Mr. Fraser then you are dreaming. Of course there are young people who like and follow VIP, that's expected and that's their choice. But how many stand a chance facing the voters in these crucial times? It's not about lip service but action and track records. The only way VIP bounces back is if you and Fraser take a back seat and let new blood take the lead. You all can use your experience to steer the ship from the background but as long as you all are at the head nobody will put their good name on the line.

I am lmao at your comment. When it comes to results & not just lip service there is hardly any other politician than fahie that continues to serve with results. The NDP trying to brand fahie & Fraser as bad people but the masses know better. Either of them would make a much better leader than both leaders of NDP & VIP. That's a fact. The NDP's propaganda machinery at other again on Fahie & Fraser on the streets because they feeling the pinch of the undercovering of their many questionable actions by these two men so the NDP want to destroy them at all cost but we the people got their backs. NDP MUST GO. THEY ARE NOT GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY.

Ok, don't take my word for it, let's sit back and see, sooner than later we'll see who are added to the slate then I'll be back to lmao again. Nobody calling Fraser or Fahie bad people, they have simply proven to be great politicians who are good and keeping their district people at their sides, but they're not good for the country, simple, honest, truth, fact!

Ralph is also a district candidate & I don't see how he is a better leader than any of the other three Opposition members. Change is always difficult but avoiding necessary change is always fatal.

I never said he was better. What are the VIP's goals and objectives? What do they stand for? Where does the youth fit in apart from promises? I haven't heard that yet. The days of old politics are gone, the youth are not stupid. They want concrete initiatives not just old talk. The truth is all these guys have been doing is playing bush politics and not telling people what they stand for, what they will do different etc. Can someone from the VIP camp explain to me why any youth should support them or even contest elections on their slate. And don't tell me mess about VIP building this country, we know who are responsible for where we are now. Tell me about going forward. Waiting --------->>>

The heading of this article reads - "VIP needs new blood for new sphere of politics". Fahie and Fraser are old blood so in essence Fahie saying he needs to go to because he has been part of the existing problem.

Fahie quote, “When you are young you have a lot of energy and a lot of ideas but you also need some older heads to give you the wisdom that you would need and how to go about it so you need a mixture of it.” - Who are the older heads he is trying to say that will give guidance?

This place have JOKES!!! I see no young person aligning themself to a half sunken ship.

In my view what Ralph is doing or more like not doing to the VIP is an injustice to the party & the Territory. As a true leader you should always leave things better than you met it. Not to have a mindset that once you are not leading then to hell with it, let it die.

The VIP is going through a transition period like many other political party in the world even the Republican party in America & the Democratic party in America after Obama. These things are normal in politics & they don't get any easier when leaders like Ralph behave the way that he is behaving.

if you comparing them to the republican party then that's good news for ndp. they won't be back for a long time.

I have more respect for Fahie now after reading this article than I had for him before. What he saying is what everyone who supports the VIP is saying. Obviously this is not the same thinking of the leader or this would be a non issue.

There will never be parties or politicians that will ever Lead or Teach a nation 100%. Whichever party wins, they always have to undo what the other party has done...then aim to put things right...in their own eyes - to what is best for the country. Therefore, it is better to leave at least 25% for disappointment, as no one is perfect! Help to build in your community...for He is like a wise man who built his house or community in this respect on Rock!

Youth would serve themselves better by being on the ground floor of a new political party. NDP and VIP are about "us vs them" instead of governing as all ofbus together as one.
