VINO stands by its article on Dr. J S Archibald's role in his firm!

-Audio attached confirms accuracy of story; news site has a history of stellar & factual reporting
Virgin Islands News Online, with a history of accurate and factual reporting, stands by its story that Dr. J S Archibald QC said he will step aside from March 1, 2013 allowing his two daughters to lead the law firm and the trust services side of his business. This news site has already cemented its reputation for being solid, creditable, fair, balanced, objective and not linked to any political parties and always having the facts during its three years of operation. Dr. J. S. Archibald QC on February 24, 2013 told an audience at the New Life Baptist Church, where he was being honoured, that effective March 1, 2013 he will be allowing his two daughters to take up the leadership of his firm, one leading the Law side and the other the Trust business. He has now issued a press statement claiming that this news site report on his message was false. Photo: VINO

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- On February 27, 2013 we received many calls from our local media partners advising us that the local Law Firm of J S Archibald had sent out to selective local media houses a statement claiming that a story posted on Virgin Islands News Online on February 25, 2013 about Dr. J S Archibald QC, stepping down from the leadership role of his law firm on March 1, 2013 was completely false.

We find it interesting that the law firm never sent this news site a copy of its press statement, however, we will not speculate as to its reason.

While this news site has the greatest respect and affection for the extraordinary local, regional and international contributions of Dr. J S Archibald QC, to the legal fraternity, we stand by our article and ask that the public ‘play the tape’ and form its own conclusion about our article.

We maintain that the article published from Dr. Archibald’s own words about stepping aside on March 1, 2013 and allowing his two daughters to lead the law firm and the trust services business of his firm is not false and malicious as it is an accurate reflection of the proceedings held at the New Life Baptist Church, located in Duffs Bottom, Tortola on February 24, 2013.

While we acknowledge the Law Firm’s concerns in its press statement, the information from the tape in our article has captured an accurate reflection of what was said and understood by many in attendance at the event of February 24, 2013 in which Dr. Archibald was one of three persons honoured at a church ceremony.

Virgin Islands News Online is never in the habit of pursuing any personal attack and agenda against anyone, and after almost three years of operation we have well established our reputation for being solid, creditable, accurate, objective and not linked to any political parties, and always having the facts.

The word remains in the Virgin Islands that if it’s on our news site then “you can take it to the bank”.

That is why people trust this news site exclusively within government and otherwise to call us daily with inside information and tips on injustice and unfair practices.

This, we might add, is the basis of professional journalism and what all reporters in the Virgin Islands should aspire to achieve.

While we are now used to the politically motivated attack on our news site, we say again to those in the media houses who continue to delight in the many failed attempts to be critical of Virgin Islands News Online, we humbly and politely suggest that one attack against the media house is an attack against all.  Today it may be this news site, tomorrow it may be yours.

Many of you would have observed an increase in the unfair attacks by public officials on the media houses of the Virgin Islands. This must be seen as an attack on the freedom that many Virgin Islanders hold dear and the issue of democracy.

We continue to thank our many readers, advertisers and our team of reporters around the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean and also our media partners locally for the support, wise counsel and commitment to free speech, facts, and objectivity.

From all indications democracy now means 'selective freedom of selective speech'. Come on people you all can do better than that.

The tape says that he would no longer be the lead. Not that he will retire. Of course it can be inferred but he did not actually say that he was retiring.

Archie said effective March 1st he will no longer be the Head, he is turning over the operation of the Law Firm to Patricia, and the Trust Services to Faye. So Archie wants to take back his statement? He can change his mind, but he can't say he did not make that statement. Now whether that means retirement for Archie or not is any one's guess.
