Vindicated again! Country not broke when VIP left office- Report

The scathing untruth was told by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL) in a public broadcast in 2012. Dr Smith had said the government they had just defeated had left the country broke.
While Premier Smith was forced to eat those words in many answers to questions posed by the Opposition Virgin Islands Party (VIP) between 2012-2015 in the House of Assembly (HoA) that showed the VIP Government of Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Ralph T. O’Neal OBE left the country with millions of dollars, yet another report has confirmed that Premier Smith was fooling the people.
Good news in report for VIP
In the Audit Report ending December 2011 laid in the HoA last week, it again confirmed that despite a deep world recession the VIP managed the British Overseas Territory’s finances very well.
According to the then Auditor General, Mrs Sonia M. Webster, the public debt at the end of 2011 stood at $116,807,696, and the Reserve Fund had a balance of $7,446,751. The Consolidated Fund had a balance of over $66,828,117.
In addition, despite a recession under the VIP, there were two areas that performed extremely well, the Financial Services Sector and Rentals, both areas bringing in revenue of over $14.2 M.
Not all is well
The Audited Report not only gave a glowing assessment of the VIP stewardship but the Auditor General Mrs Webster was very concerned about the practice of Re-Allocation Warrants. She noted that they could be a cause for irregularities; however, the 2011 Audited Report never mentioned wrong doing ever took place.
The Public, the media, civil society, the United Kingdom appointed Governor John S. Duncan OBE and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office are now demanding loudly to have the other reports from 2012-2016 under the ruling NDP.
In addition, former Opposition Leader Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) raised the issue of the 2011 Auditor General report being laid on the table of the HoA without the Accountant General’s financial statements showing what was audited and that of the Financial Secretary’s response on the report, which is the normal practice for Audited Financial reports before they reach Parliament.

and own up to it. And yes, more reports need to be made public and FINISH the past Audits PLEASE!
