GREENLAND, Tortola, VI- Vikings Cricket Club became the final team to book a place in the Super Six round of the Digicel Twenty/20 Cricket Tournament when they made light work of Wolues at the Greenland Field on Sunday June 9, 2013.

Vikings, thanks to Dave Pyroo and Lilchand Mangal, registered an 8-wicket victory to join Cavaliers, Virgin Gorda, Vincy, Jamrock and Lucas United in the Super Six stage.

Winning the toss and choosing to take first strike, Wolues amassed 155 runs for the loss of 8 wickets from their 20 overs. Simon Schilder hit 44 while Jonathan Bailey top scored with 47 runs that included 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Vikings’ vice-captain Richard Fredricks finished with the game's best bowling figures of 4 for 23 from four overs, including the wickets of both Schilder and Bailey.

At the crease, opening batsman Fredricks put 21 runs on the board before falling to the bowling of Charlie Jackson.

Pyroo then hit a top score of 71 runs which included 9 fours and 4 sixes, but was dismissed off the bowling of Rupert Dean when victory was in sight.  Mangal was not out on 42, which included 7 fours and a six.

Team Manager of Vikings Tony Bhagwandas said his team was confident of victory against Wolues but will have to up their game in the Super Six stage. "We need to improve in certain departments for the Super Six as we will be up against stronger teams."

The victory against Wolues was a must win for the 2012 finalists Vikings since they had lost their opening game against Vincy.

Vikings' President Bashir Hidar said the team had played without their captain and all-rounder Vaden Walker against Vincy but was never in doubt about qualifying for the Super Six. "I looking forward to the team doing much better in the Super Six round."

Wolues, New Testament Church of God and Police have failed to advance to the Super Six stage, which begins on Sunday, June 16, 2013.

Remaining teams have been regrouped with Group 1 featuring defending champions, Cavaliers, Virgin Gorda and Lucas while Group 2 sees Vincy, Vikings and Jamrock.

In Super Six, the top two teams from in each group will advance to the final four and then the top two teams will play for the championship.

The BVICA Board is advising fans that a contribution of $3, which will go towards the development of the sport, will be collected at the gate during the Super Six matches.
