ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With most of tropical storm Isaac gone, the Virgin Islands appears to have come out relatively untouched thanks to a number of precautions taken by locals and the path of the storm being over 100miles south of the shores.

Speaking with this news site, one resident of Road Town said that she was “pleasantly surprised that electricity continued throughout the night, it just went for a little bit in the morning for a few hours or so.” A few businesses were closed early and some were unopened in her neighbourhood but most of the businesses in town were opened to customers today.

Reactions from sister islands

Merus Joseph of Jost Van Dyke said, “I feel pretty good that we are ok... we’re a small island, none of our restaurants, our tourist destinations were hit; our income [remains intact], so definitely it’s a plus for us. He added that persons basically secured their boats and food stuff and there was no amount of panic or undue excitement in storm preparations.

Verne Wheatley, resident of Virgin Gorda said, "people did their usual preparations but... we did not get the effect that we were anticipating." "There was no physical or structural damage reported... people are out and about except for maybe construction companies." "Work goes on as normal," he concluded.

Constable Anderson based at the Anegada Police Station said, “things went ok, we had some showers but that was [nothing much]”. He added, “everybody is calm and relaxed, most of the business places are closed.” He suggested that this was mostly as a precautionary measure and also business was slow at this time but things are expected to return to normal shortly.

In spite of the squall-like conditions and intermittent showers the island remained functional and sustained little damage if any along the roadways.

Earlier in the day Governor Boyd McCleary issued an “all clear” inviting persons to return to normal activities and declared that banks and other institutions would be open for business. He however stressed that persons should remain cautious on the roadways and report any damages they encounter along the way to the relevant authorities.

Maybe because there never was a hurricane, it was a tropical storm that passed over 100 miles to the south, read and understand !!

You can clearly see from these pics that the shore line around the island needs to be reinforce with higher rocks which will keep the high waves from crashing over into the streets and parking lots. Just my 2 cents
