VI volleyball player Sharonda A. Pickering goes pro in Hungary
Pickering, who Virgin Islands News Online featured in 2018 as a Young Professional, will be joining the women’s volleyball team Haladás in the Hungarian League.
According to reports, Pickering should be in action in the coming weeks.
Pickering is one of the most successful volleyball players from the Virgin Islands, having enjoyed much success at the university level where she played for Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU).
According to FGCU, Pickering finished her career as one of the programme’s most efficient hitters and dominant blockers of all-time. She ascended up several single season and career record lists in a record-breaking senior campaign. In (Atlantic Sun) ASUN regular season play, for example, she hit .452, which is the best in programme history and her .399 career hitting percentage is the best in ASUN history.
Pickering’s career move was hailed by Sports Minister, Dr The Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), who stated on his Facebook page, “Oh what a joy to have a professional volleyball player. Congratulations Sharonda Pickering you have made your people proud!”
