CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI — A delegation of government officials and civic leaders from the Virgin Islands will travel to St Thomas to take part in activities celebrating the special relationship between the US Virgin Islands (USVI) and the Virgin Islands (VI), Government House announced on September 13, 2016.

The public is invited to attend the affair, called BVI-USVI Friendship Day, set to take place on Saturday September 17, 2016 with a “special cultural programme,” according to Government House, from 10:30 A.M. at the Reichhold Center for the Arts on St Thomas.

USVI Governor Kenneth E. Mapp urged residents to attend Saturday’s programme, which will include remarks from representatives from both the USVI and VI. This year marks the 43rd official commemoration of the friendship between the islands, according to the release.

“Our islands are linked by geography, history and ancestry,” Mr Mapp said. “Few among us cannot claim a family connection in the British Islands. We share many mutual interests and challenges and I’m encouraging even greater collaboration between our governments going forward.”

The territory’s leader pointed to a successful meeting on September 2, 2016 of the Inter Virgin Islands Council, where government officials and policy makers from the USVI met with their VI counterparts to discuss ways to enhance the relations between the territories and to improve the quality of life for residents.

The governor in July appointed Shelly Moorhead as secretary general to the council.

During the recent IVIC meeting, officials shared information on responding to the Zika threat, maritime and commerce issues. During the meeting, Lt Governor Osbert E. Potter announced that US Customs and Border Protection officials had responded favourably to a request that normal visa requirements be waived for VI entertainers invited to perform in the USVI; a long-time concern for the VI, whose artists have had difficulty entering the territory to perform.

Only people who do not understand the history between the two islands will be on here spewing thud.
The USVI was a place that BVIslanders went to work to help their families when them white people
left our people here to eat Salt Island salt. The USVI granted our men 29 days to work and our men
helped their families build up the BVI. The BVI once fed the USVI with cattle, chicken, corned pork, carried coal, eggs, whatever they needed, even cane rum. Remember Ella Gift and the rum in the pantalette? We were allowed to sell whatever produce we had here. Our men in turn got monies, brought it back to the BVI and helped their families. Our women married men in the USVI and the two islands maintained a close bond.
You only have to see a USVI newspaper from the 1930s to see how many persons from BVI would go to USVI to shop and how much money we deposited in their treasury. We still doing it today. We benefited from each other. Now we have different laws, because the Danish West Indies were bought by the US, we must not get disrespectful and start to create rift between the people. If you are a true Virgin Islander, you would understand our history. Stop spreading hate among our people. Let us respect each other's laws. That is what some of them want, to see us divided. All who are able to go to the ceremony in St. Thomas, go in peace. Our ancestors will be happy. Those who want to stay home, do so, but do not put no division between our people, please. Let peace and harmony reign among the people of the Greater Virgin Islands. We don't know who will have to wipe the other's bottom in the future with all the 'piss' going on by those former Colonial Masters. USVI/BVI, we are one people, linked by a common culture, history and ancestry. We together, mon!!

THANK YOU! OUR HISTORY IS IMPORTANT. THESE POLITICIANS, WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT OUR DEEP CULTURAL HERITAGE (only advise they get from their acting consultants), HAVE REALLY SCREWED UP OUR COUNTRY. I CONCUR, YOU CANNOT ALLOW AN UNINFORMED BOY TO PERFORM AN INFORMED POLITICIAN'S, (WITH HERITAGE BEHIND HIS EARS TO SHOW FOR IT) JOB.

Are you talking about the baldheaded one in particular?

        If I am correct?

They say Trump is Cthulhu, but it’s really the baldheaded one in character. Just look at how he is constantly trying to brainwash our children with his idiotic ideas. Aggressively and fanatically targeting our youths and targeting our children in the public education system to promote his own political ambitions; and on top of that, quoting scriptures in the process. This is the lowest/worst I have ever seen political gimmicks being played out in the Virgin Islands for possible gains towards a political advantage to become the Head Honcho.

We just have to wait and see what's next.

I absolutely love how VINo is the only new site that reports using our proper name. The official name of our country is the Virgin Islands. The official name of the other Country is the Virgin Islands of the United States. VIslanders need to educated themselves and use the proper name for their country and stop letting other countries use their name. There is no such country with the name "British Virgin Islands".

That is why we must get rid of the British totally. They put us in this position and we still pledging allegiance to them? Let us move on, man. They have one aim to enslave us again. I will die fighting first before those "slave catchers" catch my family again. They have no resting place, always in other people's country.

Us being called British Virgin Islands is so people can differentiate us from the USVI. But there is no need for us to call our selves the "BVI" when we are talking to each other, because that is not our name.

Now to address our allegiance to the UK that you speak of. What do you suggest we do? We are not in the financial or political position for independence. That's what people do not understand. As of now, we have a long way to go.
