ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Virgin Islands will be hosting the 36th OECS/Pooled Procurement Service (PPS) Policy Board Meeting and Ninth OECS Council of Health Ministers where Health Ministers and other health personnel from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) will participate in the four-day meeting from October 9 to 12, 2023.

Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) is the incoming Chairman of the Council of Ministers for Health this upcoming year and according to the minister, his capacity as chairman allows him the opportunity to shape the OECS health agenda for the years 2023-2024.

Hon Wheatley said the meeting will focus on collectively bringing the voices of OECS Member States together to make known to the rest of the world the region's ambition and challenges, especially with mental health, and highlighted that the Virgin Islands has faced several setbacks stemming from COVID-19 and Hurricanes Irma and Maria and this meeting will provide the opportunity to highlight the resilience of the Territory’s health sector.

“Building hospitals and labs is great for health advancement but our main goal is to keep people healthy and keep them out of tertiary health care. We saw a need to focus more on preventative medicine so, that will be the focus of the OECS in the year 2023-2024. We can share ideas and best practices and look at what has worked in the region and what has not worked and tackle things collectively,” he said.

VI to see benefits from meetings - Hon Whealtey

As it relates to the 36th OECS/PPS Policy Board Meeting, Honourable Wheatley said this will benefit the Virgin Islands as it relates to the cost of pharmaceuticals.

“The PPS is a procurement system, and it benefits us because we are part of the wider regional group. By coming together, it increases buying power to get pharmaceuticals at a reduced or more reasonable rate than if we were trying to buy on our own. This has serious implications for the Virgin Islands in terms of the cost of medicines, especially prescription medicine,” he added.

    Health! Oh my God Health.
We are here Hosting a big Health Conference, where we have Health personels from various Countries. These Events need to be Specifically in serios contacts with the development of a Health Based Law formation and a keen Eyed approach to the severity of the Recommendations to be brought into effect.
I state this because; Just recently in Jamaica a ver serious encounter occured in a Venders' zona, where a Vender was reported by a video that went Viral, where she " Dodoed" and was seen or caught in an uncompromising and disgustingly unsanitizing situation, needless to say more of it, though it has spread all around the globe.
It was even so ironic how other Venders wanted to Chastize the one who did the Video as if she was the Nasty Culprit, as well as to have her treatened with her Life.
On the realistic point of view this Facility has NO RUNNING WATER NOR HYGENIC Stations on, or near the said Compound..yet this Person was the most famoso, and popular Crab and Soup Vender.
Are we neglecting Salmonella andother Stomach Viruses.?
We have to be vigilent in our performances. Thank you..
