VI to host historic Rotary District 7020 Conference

The conference will be led by District Governor Vance Lewis of the VI
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Plans are in high gear as Rotarians in the Virgin Islands prepare to host a Rotary International District 7020 Conference, for the first time in the 43-year history of the organization.

The conference, scheduled for May 2013, will bring together close to 500 Rotarians from Anguilla, The Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Dutch St. Maarten, French St. Martin, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Barths, Turks and Caicos Islands, USVI and the three clubs in the VI, a press release stated.

Under the theme "Experience the Passion of Rotary", this much anticipated event will continue the rich Rotary tradition of bringing Rotarians together to discuss Rotary business and to build stronger Rotary bonds through giving.

District Conference Chair David Archer said the conference will be a gathering of persons who believe in giving and bettering communities. He said delegates and their guests will be treated to a Rotary experience created by the love, passion and commitment of dedicated Rotarians in the Virgin Islands.

The week-long event is intended to advance the objects of Rotary through fellowship, inspirational addresses and the discussion of Rotary related matters,h Archer stated. "This conference presents an unparalleled opportunity to showcase the British Virgin Islands and to facilitate interaction between attendees and members of the community, with whom they will inevitably come into contact."

The conference will be led by District Governor Vance Lewis of the VI. DG Vance assumed the position of District Governor-Nominee on July 1, 2010 and became District Governor-Elect on July 1, 2011. He will take up the role of District Governor on July 1, 2012, serving until June 30, 2013.

"I hope the conference is memorable in many ways," said Lewis. "When people leave, they should remember that they shared great fellowship with other Rotarians; that they were able to network and make new friends in the local community; that they saw natural and un]spoilt beauty and that because of the conference they want to return to the BVI again and again. I would like Rotarians to experience the passion that we BVI Rotarians feel for Rotary and become more enthused about our great organization and what it stands for."
