ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands (VI) basketball superstar and former NBA Lakers player, D’moi M. Hodge today, Saturday, April 20, 2024, dropped by during the team training session at the grassroots Sports Vision Academy (SVA) to greet his young fans and motivate them towards basketball greatness.

Teams are currently practising for the SVA League at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town, Tortola, which begins on May 25, 2024, at the same complex.

Founder of the League, Mr Eustace C. Freeman aka 'Boss' Speaking to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) said the league, now in its second year, saw Hodge pass through to meet fans and give a motivational speech.

The League had a 2023 pilot programme and has moved into this 2024 to push more grassroots sports efforts.

Mr Freeman added that Hodge’s presence comes as youngsters look up to him since he started in a similar sports training programme before being drafted in the NBA.

“The fact that he started in a similar program…  local born person, going through to the same training that they're going through and you know, to be able to elevate himself all the way to the NBA is amazing indeed,” he told VINO.

The SVA League kicks off on May 25, with several teams currently in the tournament comprising 8 teams in the 9-12 year-old category and 4 teams in the 13-15 year-old category.

Our New Centre will bring more details on the tournament as it kicks off.

He ain no super star. Stop giving him Title he hasn't earn or has no right to and swell up his head. Encourage him to work hard on his game..He should consider going to one of the Asian or Europian pro league to learn, develop and get paid. Maybe in 2 yrs he can return to the NBA better prepared..

What an idiotic comment. Must be a local for sure. It is a FACT that he is not a superstar. In all means and purposes he didn’t even earn a spot in the actual NBA.

Also, there are tons of people in the BVI more successful than him whose name you don’t even know. The youths of the BVI while it’s good that he is motivating them, he should not be someone they should aim to be, they should all aim to be far better as that’s the only way someone from the talentless BVI can make it in the NBA. That’s not an opinion btw.
