PASEA ESTATE, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands squash team delivered great results in the Nagico & Interpath Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships at Tortola Sports Club over the weekend, securing 3 gold medals and a bronze.

Leela Mellor won Bronze in the under-11s, while Jakob Noblett-Diaz secured gold in the under-15s; Delilah Pease also secured gold in the under-15s, and Danny Henderson closed off for the Virgin Islands with gold in the under-19s.

Reflecting on the day at the office, Danny Henderson, in an interview with Dean H. Greenaway, said it was a great feeling, stating, “Training so hard in the past forever, so it's nice to get the gold under the belt. I won it here two years ago. Came third last year, so it's nice to win again this year.”

He added, “I’ve been working a lot on playing faster, and that's what I was trying here, just trying to play faster than my opponent, 'cause I know that when I go to the CAC games, everyone's gonna be super super fast, super strong, and I just gotta be able to match them.”

'Historic Day for VI sports'

In the meantime, Coach Adam Murrilis stated that it was a historic day for the VI.

“Most medals we've ever won in a day, in a championship. We managed to win three gold medals two years ago. We've topped that this year. Both those championships were at home, so I guess that means we're going to have to keep holding it here in the VI.”

The coach stated that it was super impressive for Danny to win gold because, in his first-ever casting, he lost every single match.

He added, “He's got stronger every single year, and he's leaving the competition now, as undoubtedly the strongest in the Caribbean, so exciting times for him and thinking grass.”

Championship taking place in VI

The BVI Squash Rackets Association is hosting the championship, which is taking place at the Tortola Sports Club from July 10 -16, 2026.

The Championship, which is the premier event within the Caribbean, brings together around 150 of the best Under-11 through Under-19 athletes from nine different countries, including Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.

The BVISRA hosted the event in 2024 and made history for the Territory, winning an unprecedented 3 Gold Medals.

Prior to 2024, the VI had only ever won 1 Gold Medal in its history (Joe Chapman in 2009). Team VI went on to win a Gold, a Silver, and a Bronze in the Cayman Islands last year.
