ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has reported a record-breaking number of tourist arrivals in the Virgin Islands for the second quarter of the year.

This information was revealed during the Virgin Islands Voice programme held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

Increases seen across ‘all categories’

The Premier provided a detailed overview of the figures for the second quarter, stating, “In the second quarter, we had a total of 211,093 tourist arrivals, which is up 13.8 percent from last year’s 185,558. We are doing well, and we have seen increases across all categories.”

He noted an increase in day trippers, which rose to 5,865 compared to 4,030 last year, reflecting a 45.5 percent increase. Conversely, the number of overnight visitors experienced a slight decline of less than 1 percent, with 84,339 this year compared to 84,974 last year. However, cruise passenger numbers surged by 25.2 percent, reaching 120,889 compared to just 96,534 in 2024.

“If you look at the first half of this year versus the first half of last year, we have recorded a total of 707,418 tourist arrivals, marking a 3.6 percent increase from last year’s 683,140 tourists. The number of day trippers increased significantly to 11,664, up from 7,653 last year, which is a 52.4 percent rise,” he added.

Increase in overnight visitors for 1st half of year

“In terms of overnight visitors, we experienced an increase this year with 191,089 arrivals compared to 185,293 last year, representing a 3.1 percent increase in overnight figures for the first half. Additionally, we welcomed 504,665 cruise arrivals in 2025, compared to 490,168 in 2024.”

The Premier expressed his satisfaction with the positive tourism figures, emphasising that everyone must do their part to ensure a successful remainder of the year.

He reaffirmed the importance of tourism as the backbone of the country’s economy, stating that it supports employment, aids entrepreneurs, and provides essential tax revenue for community needs.

“Let’s all work together to keep tourism thriving,” he implored.

What do they come to see? Nothing here. It’s just on the cruise ship drop off list. Very sad.

Overnight visitors bring in a lot more $$$, but their numbers will not increase with more cruise ship passengers coming here.....

Another nail in the coffin of low environmental impact, high spending, high revenue visitors who can't find space on the beaches crowded with empty sun loungers.

Those cruise ship arrivals powering Romneys economy but little else.

People will come on here criticizing the government and the condition or country is in and every time the government try to do something to move this country forward 90% of the people who lives here will fight against it. For example 1 the cruise ship pier 2. The administration building when it was first constructed. 3 the HLCC 4 the multi purpose building , many persons here in the BVI opposed the construction of these projects now there are the best thing happened to us . Tired of you all complaining

A decrease. In overnight visitors because the islands are overflowing with the cruise ship slugs who spend no money but use and destroy the infrastructure.

This is a diffrent era and people are watching their dollars more.
Visiting diffrent islands for less is the going thing. Only the rich and famous like overnight. The middle class may stay a night or two on land but the ocean is where the treasure is. Low class seek for more for the dollar.

On the flip side when Trump done with all these restrictions less people will travel. Pure pressure on the world. Be prepared for what ever comes.
