ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission has announced that the Territory has officially secured three new trademarks under the Territory of the Virgin Islands Trade Marks Act, 2013, further cementing its reputation as a premier sailing destination.

The newly registered trademarks include:

● The British Virgin Islands – Sailing Capital of the World™

● British Virgin Islands – The Undisputed Sailing Capital of the Caribbean™

● The British Virgin Islands – Sailing Capital of the Caribbean™

According to the BVI Tourist Board, in a press release on September 18, 2025, each mark has been formally registered for a period of 10 years, beginning May 7, 2024, underscoring the Virgin Islands’ unmatched sailing, vibrant yachting culture and as a leader in the global sailing community.

'A powerful step in protecting our identity'

“The British Virgin Islands has long been recognised as one of the best sailing destinations in the world thanks to our steady trade winds, navigable channels, manageable currents, multiple islands and protected bays,” said Clive L. McCoy, Director of Tourism for the British Virgin Islands.

“Securing these trademarks is a powerful step in protecting our identity, strengthening our position in the international market and ensuring that travellers, sailors and partners alike associate the BVI with sailing excellence,” Mr McCoy added.

The trademarks, according to the BVI Tourist Board, will play a key role in global marketing campaigns, furthering the VI's dedication to promoting itself as being synonymous with sailing adventures.

What a waste. Registering these trademarks in the BVI protects them in the BVI only. How much taxpayer money did we spend on this fiasco?

    Where were these Trademarks registered?

Do they have any value if the British Virgin Islands do not exist?

What happened to the Virgin Islands where we live? Why are we not promoting those to generate revenue there?
