RHODE ISLAND, USA- Virgin Islands sailor Thad A. Lettsome was back in action last weekend at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Singlehanded National Championship in Rhode Island where he finished in 7th place.

Looking to make some noise in his first college event sailing the Laser and representing Tulane University, Lettsome entered into the event that had a fleet of 41 boats.

A total of 14 races were sailed.

According to a press release from the Royal BVI Yacht Club, shifty breeze throughout the weekend, combined with a tricky current, made for a dynamic racecourse and eight races were sailed on day one and a further six on the second day.

Performance as a freshman ‘remarkable’

Lettsome posted consistent results throughout the weekend including six top 10 finishes.

The young sailor’s coach, Charles Higgins, commented; "To finish seventh in the nation as a freshman is quite remarkable and makes us hungry for this discipline next fall and beyond."

Lettsome has also been representing Tulane in the two-handed team racing divisons at regular meets with other universities.

They could say what they want about Vino but you dont see these types of articles on the other news sites. They only wait until Government talk about it or it is a major news story before they over stuff like this. They dont focus on local sports at all. Vino publishes rugby, cricket and local football league articles often and even though I'm not a fan of those sports its good to see the articles. Local basketball has been dead for some time and isn't as popular as it was when the Multipurpose gym opened but it's good that the league gets some publicity from Vino as well.
