ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- “My fight with stage 4 prostate cancer is deteriorating daily. I'm in constant pain mainly in my chest, pelvis, both feet and headaches.” Those are the words of 62-year-old Higman M. Peters, whose sister Veronica Prince has set up a GoFundMe page to raise monies to help cover her brother’s medical expenses.

According to Veronica Prince, a St Vincent national who has been residing in the Virgin Islands for over two decades, her brother has been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and in need of urgent financial assistance.

“His condition could be life-threatening without financial help to cover his medical expenses since the cancer is in an advanced stage and could affect his liver, lungs and other parts of his body."

Public appeal

The GoFundMe page for Higman has been active since June 24, 2020, and having only raised less than half of the funds, the family has made a fresh appeal for help.

“With your kind donations regardless of how small, you can help save my brother's life. Thank you in advanced and may God richly bless you,” Ms Prince wrote.

Our newsroom was told that Higman was the main breadwinner of the family and friends are helping to keep the family going; however, they would appreciate anything persons can do to help him.

“I am appealing for financial donation by asking you to support my #GoFundMe campaign. I need your support. My life is not the  same. I know my chances of survival may be slim but your donation would help me to continue my therapy treatment giving me a chance to live a little longer,” Higman stated.

Meanwhile, the GoFundMe account has so far managed to raise $2, 124 of its $5,000 goal.

this bullcrap we got called NHI gets me furious when you see people asking for help

With every insurance there is a Co-pay/Coinsurance, His family may be seeking to raise money to help with that cost and not the portion already covered. The cost of health care is not cheap. Cancer treatment can cost upwards 100k which the Insurance covers most of.

Since NHI is mandatory they should come up with the difference. Im 100% sure people would have been able to buy private insurance with little or no co pay.

Why we have to call out NHI? With every insurance company a person has to pay a co-pay. Why persons feel as though it is the community, government or some organization have to provide financial assistance. We are always told to save for a rainy day. So all these years, this individual and/or his family can not come up with $5,000.00. We have to start holding persons accountable and responsible for their own care. Every pay period set aside a cent. This cent will add up for a rainy day.

its mandatory for people to pay into it. it should be mandatory for them to pay for my healthcare

how you so sure that all the "cents" he had saved up hasn't been absorbed in the surmounting amount of bills he has to pay. Some of you can be so heartless when it comes to people's illness. With the pandemic raging and people losing their job and working less hours just to keep food on the table much less cancer care...

        sigh

At this stage financial help is ok but while you are waiting, change his diet immediately, no sugar , flour, Rice , milk egg, Oil, Stickly fruits and raw organic vegetables , put him on Sour sop bush tea as his , water , Neem and Nuni. And he good to go. Quickly he will recover. That’s from a physical stand point.

Now from a spiritual stand point. Let him learn this prayer. “Oh thou Solar logos , igneous emanation , substance and consciousness of Christ , powerful life whereby everything advances come unto me and penetrate me , enlighten me , bathe me .sand awaken within my being .all the atoms of healing that are present in both you and me. So Mote It Be. ...also let him give a slight hum to activate his vagus nerve. With the 5 vowels. A E I O U M S.
Sometimes money won’t do it , the Universe is always present in times of need. Stage four cancer is nothing compared to the strength of his faith and the help Of God and the Universe. Move fast it’s never too late. Let him see himself brand new again. Doing the things he lives. See it and feel it. You reap what you saw.

The eating you have on point but the prayer is nonsense. IT IS BY THE POWER THAT IS IN THE BLOOD AND NAME OF JESUS THAT HEALS.

      STOP TELLING THE PPL NONSENSE!

Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

“…who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sin, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.” (I Peter 2:24)

It’s very sad for Higman. You have to go for PSA tests. If you catch it early it’s not a great problem to cure for most. If you don’t catch it early it’s dangerous. The government must institute a program to check PSA levels. Black men are particularly vulnerable.

The men in the Territory need to put aside their Pride and Egotistical Thoughts and go get screened and tested. If I stand to be corrected, Prostate Cancer was the leading cause of death amongst Men in the Territory.

I do pray that Mr. Peters is able to raise the funds to cover his cancer treatment. I also have a similar case but the copay has increased from $5000 plus to now $6,000 plus for such cancer treatments locally. Not sure why it went up from last year quote. NHI really needs to do better in these circumstances and other support groups to assist vulnerable families. My family is fortunate enough only by God's blessings to afford such treatment to extend our love one life but it hurts that others have to deal with the stress to find the means to extend their life. Trust God to deliver you as he promises he will never give you more than you could not bear. Prayers for a speedy recovery after your treatments too.

Yes, very important question. Before we lay this at the door of our NHI, let’s be sure of the facts.

That is a good question, it does not seem so, His sister is a resident though he seems not to be. So before we bash NHI. find out where this man is first and if he even contributed to NHI since its conception

Does it matter where someone is from or living to help them? The point is that his sister who we all probably know needs help. God's love, grace and mercy is not limited by geographical location.
        • Me (03/02/2021, 12:23) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply
The question is not being asked because of geographical location, its being as so as not to bash NHI and to ascertain where our money is going and that he will get the proper help he requires and is asking for.

Soursop leaves eases the pain. My father had the prostate cancer but was never in pain and drank that twice per day.

well i feel your pain, but in these trying times, everybody needs money, these monies should be setup to be channeled straight to the hospital or health facility, it should not go in any local individual or groups hands.

Guinea Hen Weed is good for cancer. steep 3 to 4 leaves and also the root in a cup of water for 10 minutes and drink on a daily.

Also molasses and baking soda can be used in a cup of hot water with the same guinea hen weed or sour sop leaves
1 cup hot water , 1 tablespoon molasses and 1 teaspoon baking soda, mix and drink hot. 3 times a week.

The question is being asked what happened to NHI and the Cancer society, unfortunately this gentleman does not reside in the BVI. Please get your facts straight before posting such negative comments.
