PARAMARIBO, Suriname - The Virgin Islands (VI) was at the discussion table as regional leaders converged in Suriname to discuss the future of the Caribbean maritime industry.

A delegation from the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA), comprising Mrs Tracia Smith-Hodge, Ms Shirmel Benjamin, and Mr Shaun Mactavious, participated in the PMAC 29th Annual General Meeting in Paramaribo, Suriname. 

The 29th Annual General Meeting of the Port Management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC), hosted by N.V. Havenbeheer Suriname, gathered regional port authorities and maritime professionals at the Royal Torarica Hotel to discuss the theme 'Transitioning in an Era of Global Change'.

In-depth discussions

The multi-day forum included focal sessions on port electrification, maritime security, and infrastructure resilience.

Highlights from the Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception included remarks from Her Excellency Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, President of Suriname, and Darwin Telemaque, Chairman of PMAC.

The 29th Annual General Meeting took place from July 8 to 10, 2026.
