MOSCOW, Russia- Russia expanded its sanctions list on Sunday, October 30, 2022, to include all British Overseas Territories, accusing them of "unfriendly actions" against Moscow.

"Another 11 British Overseas Territories have been added to the list," said a statement from the Russian government, adding that they supported sanctions imposed against Moscow by the UK.

All 14 OTs now on Russia’s list

With the latest 11 additions, all 14 British Overseas Territories are now on Russia's list.

According to the statement, the list was expanded to include Bermuda, the British Antarctic Territory, the British Indian Ocean Territory, the Cayman Islands, the Falkland Islands, Montserrat, the Pitcairn Islands, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Akrotiri and Dhekelia, and Turks and Caicos.

Russia previously introduced sanctions on three British Overseas Territories, which were the island of Anguilla, the [British] Virgin Islands, and Gibraltar.

Under the restrictions being brought in by the Kremlin, financial trades, loans, and real estate purchases will need "special authorisation" if nations from the list are involved.

VI sanctioned since March

The VI was sanctioned by Russia in March 2022.

The [British] Virgin Islands also found itself on a list of 36 countries banned from Russia’s airspace since February 2022.

The ban by Russia came in retaliation to the then-growing list of sanctions imposed on it by governments worldwide, including the United Kingdom and US, over its invasion of Ukraine.

Sanctions against Russia by certain countries included a ban on Russian airlines from using their airspace.

The UK has been one of the leading countries in sanctioning Russia since it launched its war on Ukraine in February. It has also been one of Kyiv's staunchest supporters.

How would these sanctions affect the OTs.
Russia just won't place sanctions unless it had some sort of
    financial outcome. Just wondering.

There are wealthy Russians and Americans who moved to Russia and o avoid high US income taxes that have purchased homes in there British Territories to escape Russia in winter, to escape Russia if they are involved with Russian criminal or civil court cases against them or other self-serving reasons. By Russia issuing sanctions it will prohibit or permit Russia to monitor financial transactions by people in these territories who move their money out of Russia due to war, cases against them, or similar.

The reason this happened is because through the UK the VI sanctioned and froze their assets first. A lot of countries are staying out of it but that is the factual explanation of how this territory became on their list of unfriendly countries.

Issues such as this are exactly why independence from reckless politics is important to discuss as a international tourist destination.

Whatever our mother country does will affect us us, the OT's. WW111 is now happening and Russia will not back down. That little man Putin has some big balls. Something the BVI should grow.

We probably would have ended up on Russia's list anyway. But I think the initial Russian targeting of the BVI had to do with AF's irresponsible statements on Mar 23rd 2022.

Foreign matters of this nature should be handled by the Governor's office or the UK itself. Hopefully, we will never have a another leader like this again.

Whatever the mother country does? Okay it’s like this. The government and the UK know exactly what Putin means. He doesn’t mince words or talk in empty generalities. He directly addresses the exact issue. Don’t kid yourself. Putin would not make this statement unless he had plenty of documented information. It’s all connected and it is all global and huge, just as you say WW111. And not one land mass will be left undone.
NOTHING CAN STOP WHAT IS COMING!

Rishi Sunak and N Weathley are both on the wrong side of history. Victory to the Russian federation is a must. The western front is divided as they grapple with the reality of rocketing inflation, high energy cost, supply chain shortages and a corrupt regime in Ukraine.

Progressives in the west are now calling for diplomacy and peace talks. No one wants nuclear war.

Neo Nazis are on the rise in Ukraine and has been responsible for terrorist attacks in the Donbas and Kherson regions. According to FirstPost, Crimier bridge attack, Nord stream 1&2 were both the action of UK military and the US covert operations.

While there is time we the people of the VI advocate peace, sanctions on Russia should be lifted. We support a neutral position just like India.

As for Ukraine, Zelensky has been used like a tool by the west. His government is illegitimate, after the Orange Revolution coup, they took power 2014.

Russia is the the balance of power and peace man must be the priority. NATO continues to destabilize eastern countries for energy resources and economic dominance. We will never forget Lybya and how they removed Colonel Muammar Muhammad Abu Gaddafi.

Mother Russia couldn’t be more correct!!! As for you, you have not done anything good but rumor what some poor soul heard and then told you. Kindly document where your information can be located. The Ukraine people have been freed by Putin. They have been involuntary human experiments for all biological drugs that haven’t even been tested. They have been held captive for 8 years. Ukraine was part of Russia until the US took over. Have you read this or do I smoke crack with my College education? Someone on crack would be highly unable to articulate the way Mother Russia has. It shows your ignorance and the world will read what you have to say.

Intercaribbean has further reduced the size of carryons on outgoing flights trying to charge $65 for a standard carryon but no charge on incoming because they can’t get away with it! There already charging $70 for a second case which invariably doesn’t make it on to any connecting flight!. Again having to travel back to collect a second case they didn’t fly back from Agu last night.
