VI records strongest H1 company incorporations since 2021
As reported in BVI Finance’s September 25, 2026, Newsletter, the significance of the latest figures lies not only in the volume of new registrations, but in where growth is occurring.
It explained that sharp increases in limited partnerships and private investment funds point to greater demand for BVI structures used in private-market investment, while the expansion of the jurisdiction’s licensed virtual asset sector demonstrates its growing role in regulated digital finance.
Key figures from the FSC’s Q2 report include: Limited partnership formations increased by 73% over the past year, rising from 103 to 178; private investment fund registrations almost doubled, increasing by 93% from 14 to 27; overall new fund registrations rose by 23%, from 60 to 74, with private investment funds accounting for 13 of the 14 additional registrations; the number of licensed VASPs increased from five to 27 in 12 months; and more than 7,300 companies were incorporated, making it the strongest second quarter since 2022.
VI's relevance to 'global private capital' highlighted- BVI Finance CEO
Elise Donovan, CEO of BVI Finance, said International finance is changing, with capital increasingly being raised through private markets, while digital assets are transforming how ownership and value move across borders.
“These results show that the BVI is responding to both developments…The growth in limited partnerships and private investment funds reflects the jurisdiction’s continued relevance to global private capital. At the same time, the expansion of our licensed VASPs sector shows that the legal certainty, flexibility and professional expertise for which the BVI is known are equally relevant to the emerging on-chain economy.”
She added that the VI is not moving away from its traditional strengths but is using them as the foundation for a broader financial services offering capable of supporting how international businesses and investors operate today.
Results reflect our work- Hon Lorna G. Smith
Junior Minister for Financial Services and Economic Development, Hon Lorna G. Smith, OBE (AL) said, “These results reflect our work to ensure that the BVI’s financial services industry continues to evolve alongside the needs of international markets.”
She said continued strength in the VI’s corporate sector, combined with growth in private-capital structures and regulated digital assets, demonstrates the breadth of the jurisdiction’s offering.
“The Government remains committed to working with the FSC and industry to support responsible innovation and reinforce the BVI’s position as a competitive, well-regulated international financial centre." Hon Smith said.
