VI receives key to Broward County as today, June 1 declared VI Day in Tamarac
This was done following a proclamation read by the Commissioner in the city of Tamarac, Honourable Morey Wright Jr, in the presence of Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and Minister for Communications and Works, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) on May 31, 2023.
During a speech on May 18, 2023, during the Swearing in Ceremony and First Sitting of the First Session of the Fifth House of Assembly at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, Hon Rymer had officially said the VI will be given the key to the city; however, that was upgraded to key to the county.
Key upgraded!
“We originally said the Key to the City, but we got upgraded to the Key to the entire County.
"Holding the key to Broward County, Florida, a county of over 2 million people and 30 cities in South Florida. Thanks to the Honourable Morey Wright and Honourable Hazelle Rogers. We appreciate you!,” Hon Rymer said in a Facebook post. yesterday.
“This [is] indeed an honour for all of us to have this gathering in this space, once day out from Caribbean heritage month, so you are making history in the month that we are supposed to celebrate that we are here in this country… this is the most BVI I have seen in this country,” Mrs Rogers said.
Ms Rogers added that since she does not like flying, the flight will no doubt means she will be taking a flight to the Virgin Islands for the first time.
In addition to the key given to the VI on behalf of the Mayor of the county, the VI also received a copy of the proclamation declaring June 1, 2023, Virgin Islands Day in the City of Taramic.
Meanwhile, both Hons Wheatley and Rymer will be on the first commercial flight by AA to the VI today.
