VI reach NACRA 7’s Quarter Finals
As the North American and Caribbean Rugby Association’s (NACRA) Sevens Tournament got underway in Mexico City, the VI team suffered an early defeat to Barbados, 69-0.
They also went down 45-0 to Bermuda with what Coach Sherlock “Solo” Solomon described as games littered with poor tackling and missed opportunity.
However the team picked themselves up and ran riot over the St Lucians, with a resounding 35-14 scoreline to progress to today’s quarter final.
As luck would have it, the team will come up against the same Barbadian outfit that put them to the sword on day one.
“Solo”, though, has high hopes for an improved performance by hitting the Barbadians early and slowing the game down so they can assert more control and deny their “superior” opponents space to work in.
"Results didn't quite go as we wanted, losing our first two matches to Barbados and Bermuda, however; we rallied together at the end of the day to grab a well-deserved win over St Lucia! Especially proud to be named Captain of the national side this week & looking forward to the rest of our matches tomorrow!" said Team Captain Rory Thornton.
Other quarter final match up include Guyana against Cayman, Jamaica playing Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago facing Bermuda.
