ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has extended congratulations to Prime Minister Phillip J. Pierre of Saint Lucia and Prime Minister Dr Godwin E.L. Friday of St Vincent and the Grenadines following their victories at their respective general elections.

Dr Friday and the New Democratic Party (NDP) won the November 27, 2025, general elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines, ending Dr Ralph  E. Gonsalves and his United Labour Party’s (ULP) 24 years in office.

Hon Pierre and the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) were re-elected following elections on December 1, 2025.

The victories in Saint Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines were landslide victories with the SLP and the NDP winning all but one seat in their respective islands.

Congrats to those entrusted with their people’s confidence

The Caribbean, Premier Wheatley stated in a Facebook post on December 2, 2025, has long been a symbol of democracy.

“True democracy is upheld when we respect the rights of others, ensure opportunity for all, and protect the vulnerable through steady, responsible leadership. In this spirit, I congratulate all those who have recently been entrusted with the confidence of their people.”

Prime Minister Pierre’s return to office, he said, is a reaffirmation of his country’s trust in his leadership.

As for Dr Friday’s election, Premier Wheatley called it a historic milestone and testament of his lifelong dedication to public service.

“I look forward to working closely with Prime Minister Pierre and Prime Minister Friday as we pursue our shared priorities and continue strengthening the bonds of cooperation and friendship across our Caribbean family.”

Gratitude for Dr Gonsalves

Premier Wheatley also paid tribute to Dr Gonsalves for his 24 years of “distinguished public service” as St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Prime Minister.

“He stands as one of the region’s most respected voices, a man of principle, intellect, and steadfast commitment. I remain grateful for the friendship and partnership he extended to the Virgin Islands under his leadership.”
