BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI– ‘Honestly Speaking’ talk show host Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline has said the Virgin Islands (VI) now has several social, political, and business challenges compounded, which he says have now made the territory feel like a "pressure cooker".

Touching on several issues including poor customer service, the Commission of Inquiry (CoI), education challenges, public health, politics, and public security, Skelton-Cline during the November 2, 2021, edition of his Honestly Speaking Talk show on ZBVI 780 AM, Skelton-Cline said the VI now feels like "something is about to blow".

“The cumulative effect and impact of all that we have been through together… have the place, and the space just pressurised, and I am deeply concerned for where we are as a people,” he said.

Make education a priority - Skelton-Cline

As it relates to education, Skelton-Cline said, “There must be a re-ordering of our priorities in this country if we are going to leave or put in place the instruments, the vehicle that will place our children at a greater advantage than was even handed to us.”

He said education as a whole in the VI must come "front and centre" especially in the 2021/2022 budget of the Virgin Islands (VI).

Skelton-Cline said addressing education is long overdue, given that the VI’s administration had criticised the previous National Democratic Party (NDP) administration on education.

“Everybody needs to sit down right now and give up some portion of their budget to focus this country on education,” he said.

He called for a comprehensive plan among the matter of education from primary to tertiary in the VI, with teachers and students being able to do their jobs in safe teachable spaces.
