NANNY CAY, Tortola, VI- Although the final figure has not been released as yet, BVI Movember Co-Founder Scott Hart is confident this year’s total figure will surpass the $15, 000 raised at last year’s Movember event.

Movember 2012 was observed on Friday November 30, 2012 at Peg Legs, Nanny Cay where the event saw the most entry of ‘Mo Bros’ in the history of BVI Movember.

The Jack Daniels “Man of Movember” title went to Cameron Warren while the Ms Movember 2012 title went to Charlotte “Charlie” Brigden.

Warren was declared the Man of Movember after a dance off among Mo Bros “Gangnam Style” made popular by South Korean pop music sensation Psy.

The Movember Generations award went to the Maccallums; the Portcullis Trustnet "Mo Growth" prize was taken by  Ian James while the Nanny Cay "Team Mo Bro" award was snapped up by the “Mark Wahlbergs”.

The BVI Newbie "Lame Mo" award went to Rory Greenan, who seemed ecstatic about winning it.

The CCT "Celebrity Mo" is Colin Meegan (as Freddie Mercury) and the enviable Forbes Hare "Big Sexy Mo" title was showered upon Thor Downing.

Much appreciation was extended to Mr Andrew Gilliland for singlehandedly raising some $3660. He easily won the KPMG "Mo Money" award.

“Some of the guys are yet to hand in their funds but I am very confident we beat last year’s $15, 000 raised,” Scott Hart told Virgin Islands News Online immediately after the show.

Just as last year’s, Hart said BVI Movember will donate a third of the money raised towards trying to find a new test. He noted that here in the VI there is a large amount of Negro men who are at a higher risk rate for prostate cancer.

“You have a desperate need for a new test as there were too many false positive with the current test. So we are donating this money to the Medical Research Council in the UK. What the research has done in one year now is equivalent to what was being done in ten years thanks to the fundraising initiative that is held all over the world. Two thirds of the money we are keeping here locally for BVI residents to make sure that if men suffer from prostate cancer or testicular cancer there are funds here to help with medical costs or transportation costs. It was really fortunate that we had a gentleman here that we are helping who took it on himself to appear on stage and express thanks to the Movember initiative for benefitting him.”

Hart described this year’s event as probably the most successful and also had big thumbs up for Road Town Wholesale for providing sponsorship under its Jack Daniels brand.

“It was an incredible year for us. We had more Mo Bros than we have ever had. It is the must most successful year we have had yet,” Hart concluded.

The Movember annual fundraising initiative encourages men to grow and groom moustaches throughout November to raise vital funds and awareness of prostate and testicular cancer. More than 160,000 men are diagnosed with cancer every year, including 40,000 who are told they have prostate cancer.

According to the Movember campaign, which originated in Australia in 2003, men are also less willing to talk openly with their friends.

In 2011, around 854,000 people across the globe took part in the charity event and raised $79.3M.
