VI mauled 26-0 by Costa Rica in CONCACAF U-17 Football Qualifiers

ALAJUELA, Costa Rica- The Virgin Islands (VI) suffered another heavy loss in Group D at the 2026 CONCACAF Men’s U-17 Football Qualifiers in Costa Rica on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

After falling 12-nil to Puerto Rico on February 5, 2026, the Virgin Islands were demolished 26-nil by Costa Rica at FCRF Field #2 in Alajuela.

Paul González led the way with five goals on the day for Costa Rica. Akenai Samuels and Ethan Barley struck four goals each, and Santiago Quirós registered a hat trick to highlight an effective day on offense for Los Ticos.

The VI will play their final game on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, against the Turks and Caicos Islands. Both teams are without a win and have been the whipping boys of Group D.

      When the bvi starts taking nutrition more seriously and import downisland food more than this america rubbish,they will have stronger sports men and women. Food in the
      bvi is the worst in the caribbean,dont believe me go from st marteen downwards and u will see the difference

    Being a past player and coach (in another sport) we took some serious beatings in the beginning. 1st year coaching we went 1-15. 2 years later we were undefeated because we grind, practice our tail off, and ANYONE who didn't believe in the process got release. This is a process. Learn, develop, and GRIND. Those other teams didn't start off great they went through the process also. Ignore the doubters. They will become supporters later (bandwagon jumpers)
    If the Goverment is serious, get them the what they need to succeed.

    Govt need to investigate this. Try find out why the drastic regressioon...They are carrying the BVI name, give Govt the right to get involved. This is shameful..

    Lets be real here, if the Coaches are not qualified to coach this happens. They do not actively get the players engaged from early enough and teach them as a team important international techniques. Good job guys....
