ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – For his first official birthday since becoming King of the United Kingdom, the Virgin Islanders on Sunday, June 17, 2023, celebrate the birthday of King Charles III, with a Public Holiday along with a flag raining and parade.

The King’s official Birthday Parade took place on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. from the Police Headquarters, Waterfront Drive, to Queen Elizabeth II Park.

Present at the event were the Police, The VI Premier, and other members of the House of Assembly, along with the Governor and other special invitees including Children from VI’s schools and members of the public to witness the procession.

On November 14 each year, King Charles marks his birthday privately, but every year on one weekend in June, he will mark his "official" birthday.

According to Town and Country magazine, the tradition dates all the way back to King George II, who in 1748 combined the annual summer military march with his birthday celebration—even though he was born in October.

Ever since, the reigning monarch has had the option of having an official birthday in the summertime.

At this stage of our self-determination effort, we shouldn't be celebrating the King's birthday; send him a happy birthday greeting instead.

When will we understand the difference between respect and worship? Has the Monarchy ever sent a birthday greeting to our Premier? Respect is a two-way street.

I would agree as well, Mrs. Wheatley is a beautiful classy lady. That color is popping. The Deputy Premier is looking lovely as well.

These people you see in these pictures are some real house slaves. And through them change will not come. So don't watch these as roll models, they uphold materials and the colonial system over the real needs of humanity.

These pictures are nauseating. To see these people grinning and smiling is just unnerving. All I see here is the good Ole house negroes still on the plantation worshiping massa. Disgusting.

These people acquiesce to the plantation mentality and could never lead this country forward with pride and dignity to one day separate ourselves from the UK in a sensible way.

They are enjoying their temporary status and all the benefits that comes with it. They like the system as is because it makes them feel important and special.

The UK could care less about these people so long as they remain in control. The former Premier may have got on the wrong side of the law but he got one thing right in seeing the UK for who they are: colonialists who he thought we should divorce from.
Unfortunately his hands were not clean and his alleged bad doings allowed them to put him where he currently is.

Meanwhile, the rest stay smiling and grinning from ear to ear like they are the elites. Sad set of people whom I would not trust as far as I can spit.

The VI needs a real Moses to take its people out of this colonial wilderness. It cannot happen with this grinning house crew. The fact that they a there worshiping a so called King is disgusting. He may be their King but he us certainly not mine.

And yet these are the people you elected to lead your country. Remember you live in a representative democracy where each citizen (except expats) gets the right and has the responsibility to elect representatives to speak for them and to enact the changes they deem most important. I find it quite ironic to read the comments here referring to leaders as house slaves and to hear the calls for independence yet look at who you have chosen to lead? You have a voice and its worth much more in the ballot box than it is in the blogs. BE THE CHANGE YOU DESIRE!

Our government is a reflection of the values and mindset of voters. Nothing will change unless voters mindset are changed. That can only come about thru education.

Most people where born and raised in this system. They know nothing else in terms of government. Only education beyond the norm will set us free as a people.

Harriet Tubman once said: She led thousands of slaves to freedom and could have Fred a thousand more if they knew they were slaves.

Many people in this country have not appreciated the history of this country and our being here. They don't know where they came from thus they cannot envision where they could go.

We need enlightened leaders to take us forward. I expect no change with this grin and smiling crew. Sad state of affairs for 2023.

Imagine with all the struggles in the UK with the poverty of its people and failing economy they spent millions of pounds of UK tax dollars on both this birthday celebration and his coronation ceremony, yet the Governor and a few of you want to destroy the government of BVI over the $250k for the music fest to benefit the BVI and the economy overall. Some of us really brainwashed.

How come no one is asking how much this cost? I guess because it is the Governor and King it is not a question.

After how he and Camilla treats Princess Meghan, he should be ashamed to be asking black people of the Overseas Territories to help he celebrate a birthday.

It's obvious that the colonial past will end when Prince Geoge Wales has been officiated as King!

Prince of Wales and his wife, Willie and Katie, feel similarly about Meghan, therefore I will wait on Prince George for that!!

Totally agree, she is a proven liar and opportunist. Guess she thought she could step up in the Palace and change the rules around.
