VI leads establishment of new Caribbean network on sustainable development


The network was formalised at the conclusion of a virtual debriefing on the Eighth Meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development.
According to a press release from the Office of the Premier, the network will facilitate closer engagement between officials actively involved in the process of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In collaboration with the United Nations (UN) Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the CSSDN will also support the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC) and provide a platform for ongoing collective engagement with the wider UN system on relevant sustainable development issues in the subregion.

Vice Chair of UN ECLAC and Virgin Islands Special Envoy Mr E. Benito Wheatley chaired the meeting and was selected to serve as CSSDN Interim Chair, while Ms Latoya Clarke, Programme Director and SDG Focal Point at the Planning Institute of Jamaica, was selected to serve as Interim Vice Chair.
Official updates
The debriefing, according to the press release, also provided participants with official updates by UN agencies that included:
• A progress report on the implementation of the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS) delivered by representatives of the SIDS Unit of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs’ (UN DESA), who included Mr Sainivalati Navoti, Chief of the SIDS Unit; Ms Emanuela Calabrini, Senior Sustainable Development Officer; and Ms Anya Ihsan Thomas, Sustainable Development Officer.
• A presentation of the outcomes of the 8th Meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development and the current status of the SDGs in the Caribbean, delivered by Mr Abdullahi Abdulkadri, Coordinator, Statistics and Social Development Unit, ECLAC and Mrs Diane Quarless, Chief of the ECLAC Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean in Port of Spain.
• A presentation on productive development policy, delivered by Mr Paul Wander, Economic Affairs Officer, Division of Production, Productivity and Management, ECLAC.
The debriefing was convened by the Virgin Islands with the support of ECLAC and attended by the government representatives of Anguilla, Aruba, Barbados, Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Curacao, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Sint Maarten, and Suriname.

Road Town Landscape - $Indeterminate - Clear foot paths a mess. No clear shopping routes. Lights not working. Electric
boxes open. Road signs derelict. Crossings not visible. Trailer park in Admin Complex. Dust Bowl on seafront. Not
sutainable.
Beaches - $Lost to tourists and locals - Cane Garden Bay, Long Bay, Long Bay, Smugglers Cove, White Bay, Prickly Pear, Peter Island, Norman Island, Oil Nut Bay, Bitter End - Not sustainable.
Prospect Reef - $6,000,000 - Lost to the nation. Not sutainable.
Spooners Hill - $???? - Land lost to the nation - No old peoples home. Derelicct land. Not sustainable
Pier Par Docks - $83,000,000 Part of this investment and not renewed/repaired. Cost to reputation. Tourism product. Eyesore. Not sustainable.
Roads - $100,000,000 - Money gone. - Roads gne. Not sustainable.
Water - $16,000,000 - Water ready since 2016. instructure still not ready. Not sustainable. $th worled country leading
3rd world countries on sustainability. Ha ha.
Sewage - $???? - Dont go swimming. Especially near the untreated outfalls. Not sustainable.
Parks - $0 - Not much money ever spent on these. Npt sustainable.
Agriculture - $0 - Except to people who don't farm.
Fishing - $0 - Except to people who don't Fish.
Growing Canibis $0 - We need land for food. (Ask P487) Not sustainable.
Governance - Transparent - Not sustainable.
Independence - Not sustainable
Governance - In secret - Sustainable
Corruption - Sustainable
Removing Tint on Cars - $0 - Just stop the corrupt workers letting cars with Tint have licences. Sustainable
Slowing down Drugs and Guns - $0 - Get Tint of car windows. Sustainable.
Leading Caribbean in Sustainability - Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Don't forget the lost $20,000,000 - Not sustainable.
