Road Town, Tortola, VI – Irregularities in water consumption and billing in the Virgin Islands will be addressed, as the Government of the Virgin Islands has announced that it will take firm action to resolve these issues.

The government has declared water a national priority, recognising its vital role in sustaining communities, supporting the economy, and ensuring a secure future for generations to come.

The Ministry of Communications and Works stated in a press release dated September 4, 2025, that it is aware that many residents have unauthorised connections and would request that these persons visit the Water and Sewerage Department to regularise their accounts.

Grace period

The Ministry further warned that such practices are unlawful, unsustainable, and place an unfair burden on law-abiding citizens; hence, persons involved in this illegal act should use this opportunity to come forward and correct their accounts without penalty.

The government stated that it will take legal action and enforce compliance without further notice if persons don’t come in within the grace period of 30 days.

The Government issued a plea to all citizens to act responsibly, protect this precious resource, and ensure that water is managed sustainably for the benefit of all.

So you all want people to die. If people can'not get water the legal way because water always off.. You want them to die...We need to bring legal actions against the government for failing to provide a basic and necessary need...Government is total failure and all of them need to resign...Kye and Vincent 2 worse..Non Peoductivity, nothing under their port folio is a success..

Who do we bring charges against when our water bill is paid every month promptly and we still can't flush a toilet or wash our hands. Our cleaner has taken to filling bottles from the trickle that runs when it runs so she can clean the bathrooms and kitchen. This in a business place in Road Town. Here we are in 2025, in a place where people will be offended if you refer to it as third world and you have to fill plastic bottles to flush the toilet. As a child we had a saying "in this world of sun and fun we don't flush for number 1". We back to that. As the young people say Tola ain a real place.

Up to now there are no pipes in my area and I have to buy water from the water trucks to fill my cisterns so my tenants can get running water all day. I pay my taxes too but then others around me have illegal connections done by people working right in WSD!
    Is this fair???
