ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Ministry of Health and Social Development has officially signed a contract for the construction of a new social home for the Leonard family in Virgin Gorda, marking another milestone in the Government’s ongoing commitment to providing safe and secure housing for vulnerable residents across the Territory.

A Meaningful Initiative for VG

Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), described the project as one of the most meaningful social housing initiatives undertaken during his tenure, emphasising its deep significance to both the Leonard family and the wider Virgin Gorda community.

“This has been a long-awaited project,” Minister Wheatley stated. “It is one of the most important social homes I believe I will deliver during my tenure, because of the history of this family. They are descendants of the late Oliver Leonard, a well-known entrepreneur and fisherman who was remembered for his generosity and his willingness to share with others. I am honoured to see this project become a reality and dedicate it to his memory and the contributions he made to the Virgin Gorda community.”

Premier Commends Social Housing Efforts

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Dr Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), commended the Ministry for its continued investment in social housing and praised Honourable Wheatley for his leadership in improving the lives of vulnerable residents.

“Our administration has worked hard to support the most vulnerable members of our society through stronger social protection policies, increased social benefits, and the construction and repair of social homes,” the Premier said. “I congratulate the Leonard family on this important milestone and commend Honourable Wheatley for his continued dedication to this programme. We remain committed to building a more sustainable Virgin Islands where those in need have access to safe and secure housing.”

Construction Partnership Announced

The construction contract has been awarded to E & K Trucking and Construction Services Limited, represented by Mr Enos Z. Aaron, who expressed appreciation for the opportunity to partner once again with the Government on a social housing project.

“We are grateful to the Government and the Ministry of Health and Social Development for giving E & K another opportunity to build a social home,” Mr Aaron said. “This project is larger than the social homes we have completed previously, but we are committed to delivering a quality home for the Leonard family. We appreciate the confidence placed in our company and look forward to another successful project.”

Part of Ongoing Social Housing Programme

The new social home forms part of the Government of the Virgin Islands' ongoing Social Housing Programme, which seeks to improve the quality of life for vulnerable individuals and families by providing safe, resilient, and dignified housing throughout the Territory.

The Ministry of Health and Social Development remains committed to improving the health and social well-being of the people of the Virgin Islands through initiatives that address housing insecurity and promote community stability.

Thank God election is close and politicians love power .They do any and everything to stay in power, or to get power, it's never from their Hearts...It's politics.

So Enus is the only one getting all the work? The road project in Sea Cow's Bay isn't even finished yet, and the drainage still hasn't been properly completed. When the heavy rains come, we'll see where all that water ends up. There are plenty of other small contractors who deserve an opportunity as well. It can't always be the same person getting every project.

Did these other small contractors bid on the project? Those contractors don’t bid, but are upset when others do and are successful. From the other social homes this company has completed, they do a good job and the homes are completed under budget. Kudos to them for doing a great job consistently.

since the gov is so efficient why don't they make the social home plans public and disclose the costs so others can use the plans to build themselves a similar cost effective home?

Have you ever thought they are getting these many jobs because they're getting the job done, already have necessary machines/materials and executes well, captain obvious?

So there’s no construction company on Virgin Gorda can do this type of work?

Virgin Gorda contractors are not bidding because only the big RED gets all the contracts over there. Why spend all that time and money preparing a tender for submission when you know VW giving the contract to RAS
