VI gets 1st obituary website
J’Moi and his mother shared a vision of creating such a website since he was about 10 years old. He is now 18 years old.
The topic came up between the two at intervals over the years but that is where it stood until two years ago when they made the firm decision that the site was something that they definitely were going to do. However they decided that it would be to the benefit of the entire Caribbean.
Speaking with this news site Ms. Corea said that recently she was approached by someone who told her that he knew someone who had a close resemblance to her. That person turned out to be her mother, the late Judith Corea, but her mother had already died some 16 years before from breast cancer.
“He was shocked to hear that,” she said, noting that the persons regretted not having the opportunity to even attend her funeral.
That was the breaking point for J’Moi when his mother shared that bit of information with him. She said he insisted that for such reasons they must have the dream come to life and so he made the first move by creating an email address, reserving the domain name and drafting the first letter to the regional funeral homes.
The site is now up and running - www.caribbeanobituary.com. According to Ms Corea, the feedback has been tremendous thus far with persons from all across the Caribbean showing support.
She also said that once they got started it was shared with her siblings and a few close friends who all gave their blessing and chipped in big and small ways.
J’Moi is a 2013 honour graduate of the Elmore Stout High School and is currently enrolled in the Natural Science programme at the H Lavity Stoutt Community College.
To place an obituary notice on the site there is a small fee of $40 and is open to all the Caribbean countries from Jamaica to Guyana. The website is mobile compatible so you can view the notices from your mobile devices, as well.
