ALAJUELA, Costa Rica- The Virgin Islands (VI) U-20 Football Team suffered defeat in its second game of Group C at the 2026 CONCACAF Qualifiers in Alajuela, Costa Rica today, Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

The VI boys, who drew 2-2 against Dominica on Monday, February 23, 2026, lost 2-nil to Antigua and Barbuda.

The Virgin Islands conceded in the 15th minute of play when Greg Williams received a pass through the middle and chipped goalkeeper Toby Whiteside.

Although the VI created chances and had a very strong first half, they could not find the equaliser.

Misfortune for VI

Whiteside, the hero in the game against Dominica, fumbled a long ball that was floated in to the face of the goal and could only watch agonisingly as the ball popped out of his hands and crossed the goal line. The goal was registered as an own goal by Whiteside in the 50th minute.

Some late substitutions saw the VI bombarding the Antigua and Barbuda defence, but a goal today was not to be.

The VI’s next match is against the Dominican Republic on Friday, February 27, 2026. Their final game is on March 3, 2026, against St Lucia. The VI would need to win both of those matches to stand any chance of qualifying for the next round.
