Cervical cancer prevention & control

Participants reviewed the current state of cervical cancer prevention and control in the territory and identified priority actions and critical barriers across the full continuum of care, from human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination to screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up.

Discussions focused on strengthening HPV vaccination coverage, expanding access to high‑quality screening and diagnostic services, ensuring timely treatment for precancerous lesions and invasive disease, and improving systems for patient tracking and follow‑up. 

In a Facebook post, PAHO said the consultation will inform the development of a comprehensive National Cervical Cancer Elimination Strategy aligned with the World Health Organisation’s global goal of eliminating cervical cancer as a public health problem.
